A list of all the best games that are surprisingly yet to get a sequel, we look at what a sequel of each of these classic games could look like!

1. Sleeping Dogs

The very first game that comes to mind when thinking of games that for some reason have never got a sequel is United Front Games and Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs. This game about Wei Shen, a deep undercover cop, fighting his way through the criminal underworld of Hong Kong is one of the most underrated open world games probably of all time. This game was one of those games that you could find yourself on for many hours without noticing, with endless mini games from street racing to karaoke, there are countless ways to entertain yourself.

A compelling and all-action story combined with updated brutal fighting combos and a stunning 4K scenery of bustling Hong Kong, I can most definitely see this game having a very successful sequel. With updated next-gen graphics and a follow on from the original story of Wei, a sequel to Sleeping Dogs is a no brainer.

2. Overwatch

overwatch 2 title

I think anyone in the gaming community will agree that an Overwatch sequel is long overdue. One of the most popular games of all time, it has now been 6 years since the release of the original Overwatch. Anyone who knows anything about gaming knows how popular this game was and still is, with Blizzard’s Overwatch raking in 7 million users a month as of April 2022. Luckily for Overwatch fans, Overwatch 2 seems to be coming as early as this year, which if Blizzard get right, could be one of the games of the year.

A fresh roster of heroes, new maps, a few new game modes and updated dynamics, I think an Overwatch 2 would not need to do too much different from the original Overwatch. Considering Blizzard still have a strong player base with Overwatch, even though they released 6 years ago, it would be unwise to change too much in the new game. Although I’m sure fans would like some new aspects, they will most definitely buy and play a game that has pretty much the same foundations, but just with a refresh of everything and with update graphics.

The one thing I feel sequels fail in is doing too much. I’m not saying sequels should be the exact same game, but if the developer wants to add and change everything, then to me that’s not a sequel. At that point, it’s a whole different game.

3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

sekiro title screen

Labelled as one of the toughest games of all time, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a game that if you haven’t played yet, I urge you to get as soon as possible, especially with this genre of games being in the spotlight due to Elden Ring’s success. This game is everything you want from these boss battle, extremely difficult RPG games.

A great story of ‘The One-Armed Wolf’ who must find and protect a young lord who is a descendant of an ancient bloodline, set in the always epic and in a way aesthetic 1500s Sengoku Japan, a sequel to this with updated next-gen graphics could be one of the greatest games of all time.

The bosses in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are already extremely cool, so to think of what FromSoftware could come up with, especially after seeing Elden Ring, is mindboggling. Battling ancient Japanese warlords and warriors in 4K, next-gen graphics with new combat combos and a fresh scenery is a thought that I’m sure gets the Sekiro fans excited, or any RPG player for that matter.

4. Bully

A game that was before its time, I have no doubt in my mind that a Bully sequel would bring the house down. This game was a trailblazer is the world of RPGs, with its wacky cutscenes, fun mini games and endless activities, Bully is no doubt a Hall of Fame game.

Now imagine Bully with todays graphics, combined with the size of maps in RPGs these days, the possibilities for a Bully 2 game would be immense. They could continue the story, with James ‘Jimmy’ Hopkins growing up and carrying his wild antics over to University or as a Senior in High School, or they could start afresh with a new character.

I think it would be nice for fans of the game to continue Jimmy’s story and get to see him in updated graphics, however, with character creation being at such a high level at the moment, it would be cool if we could make our own Bully.

Obviously, this game may not get a great reception from teachers and parents, especially in the politically correct era that we live in these days. However, if games like GTA and Saints Row can exist, then I don’t see why a Bully 2 can’t exist either.

5. L.A. Noire

LA Noire title screen

Another popular game that I am frankly surprised at the fact that I haven’t seen any rumours about getting a sequel is L.A. Noire. One of the best crime and investigator themed games out there, L.A. Noire was a big hit for Rockstar, with majority of the reviews being glowing to say the least.

This game set in 1947 Los Angeles supplied us with memes from its cutscenes, intense police officer gameplay and an array of investigating activities that immersed you into the world of being an investigator. I think a fresh game, maybe set in a similar time period but a different city could go down as a cracking game. The first idea that I thought of was crossing the seas for a LDN Noire set in the murky streets of London, however that could just be my British bias coming in to play.

New York is always a good option, especially for a dark game like L.A. Noire, with New York having the reputation of being a rough and tough city. Either way, I think there are many possibilities available for a L.A. Noire sequel, whether its L.A. Noire 2 or a different city, this game in some shape or form deserves a sequel.

Let’s hope maybe a game developer or two could make this wish-list of mine come true! If there are any other games that you think deserves a sequel, let us know in the comments section below. You never know, this could be the start of something!
