1 – Cult of the Lamb

Kicking off our Top 5 Games of August, a game which is currently top of the charts for digital downloads on the Nintendo Switch, there’s no reason not to give thus fun little rogue-like action-adventure game developed by indie developer Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital a try.
In Cult of the Lamb, you play as a cult leader who happens to be a sheep… yes a sheep who has been revived by a spirit come deity ‘thing’ simply known as ‘The One Who Waits’. Your aim is to free your master by recruiting new sheepish followers to the worshipping flock, developing a cult base for them and taking on the otherworldly entities that trapped him in some bloody exchanges. A grind of gathering supplies, looking after your recruited worshipers, levelling up your character and developing your cult base is the min premise of the gameplay, with a relatively charming art style of battling deities with some crazed cult sheep and impressive combat animations to go with it.
This game is a no brainer for those looking for a relatively simple but outrageously fun indie game to pass the time. Let’s not get it twisted though, this game is not a world-beater in terms of quality gameplay and amazing graphics, but if that doesn’t take away from the overall experience of the game, which is unique, ruthless is violent – all as a flock of sheep.
2 – Stray

Sticking with the theme of games where you play as animals, Stray is an amazing game where you explore a cyberpunk style city as a cat. I know right, that alone sounds extremely fun. Filter in the sensational graphics and wonderful game physics, Stray is up there with a shout for Game Of The Year.
You are positioned in a 3rd-person camera angle behind the ginger street cat in which you control, and you simply run and jump around, exploring the city, just as a cat would. The aim of the game is to scale back up the futuristic cybercity to make it back to your ‘cat gang’. You have a fair amount of evasion to undertake, with the evil ‘zurks’ attempting to take you down, however the forefront of this game, in my opinion, is the pure beauty of being a cat.
You can tell that the developers spent many hours perfecting how they want the cat to move and react to its environment, making each animation as close to how a real cat would act as possible. You really do get the experience of being a cat, bar the occasional forced barrier that stops you jumping to a certain spot or having a long-lasting feud with a mischievous mouse who happens to be called Jerry.
3 – MultiVersus

Mix Warner Bros. characters with Super Smash Bros. and what do you get? Well, the answer is this fun fighter game, Multiversus. A 2v2 fighter game that lets you play as Bugs Bunny, Lebron James and Batman, yes, I know that sentence is crazy, Multiversus lets you finally see who out of your childhood icons would win in a fight.
With a meme filled nature and a wealth of funny but also cool animations for each character this game is a bundle of fun. Beating up your friend with the Iron Giants robotic movements or eliminating someone by dunking on them with Lebron is just outright wacky and to be honest, it’s the silly type of game that is needed in the gaming market at the moment, with everyone getting drowned out by battle royales and the ever-present cycle of new sports games.
My only real reservation about this game is the fact that it’s not available on the Switch, which to be honest is a big surprise to me. I feel this game would be perfect for the Switch, just like how games such as Smash Bros. and Brawlhalla thrive on the Switch.
4 – Two Point Campus

Ever wondered what it’d be like to run your very own University from scratch? Build your dream University on Two Point Campus, the tycoon type sim with a twist from the makers of Two Point Hospital.
In this game you get to not only literally build the University building, but also go in depth and hire staff, run an academic institution packed with crazy courses and let your University students run wild.This game is surprisingly detailed when it comes to the actual construction side, with a wide range of building materials, object types and varied styles that you can go for.
You can take the unrealistic approach and make your University something otherworldly or keep it traditional and simply build a University that you would love to go to. Either way, this game is a cool spin on the classic tycoon building sim type of game and I highly recommend it as a game that is not too complex, but a fun little game that you can pass the time with.
5 – Xenoblade Chronicles 3

A game that is full of British twangs, something that I as a Brit myself highly appreciate, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the 3rd edition of the now established Xenoblade franchise on the Switch. As part of the new release that came with the remastered editions pf the original Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 fails to disappoint, with it bringing all the familiar Xenoblade action and more.
This classic JRPG comes with it’s all to recognizable anime style characters, with Noah being the protagonist this time, engaging in intense battles against all types of foe, slaying all in his way with his trusty crew. This game is a must play for those who have played any of the Xenoblade series and want to continue it’s great but also slightly crazy storyline.
I also highly recommend this too those who want to get into JRPGs that have the 3D style of play, so anyone who plays for example, Genshin Impact, Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest should definitely give this game a go.
