Now the summer is well and truly here, and that summer garden furniture and your BBQ has had its first use of the year. Why not add a little light in the garden as we will be out there for longer?

 

In this review we have been sent the Ollny Festion lights G40 which are a mains-powered set of garden lights with some special features such as IP45 rating and also the fact they can be connected with 10 sets giving you a massive 800ft in length.

The prices range from £14.39 for the 7.5m to £44.99 for the 45.5m set. In this review, we were lucky to have been sent the 30m set which cost £34.49

Design

The G40 are made of PET plastic around the outer casing and the bulbs themselves making the set extremely durable. I did expect them to look a little cheap considering the bulbs are plastic, but this was not the case they look exactly like glass but offer an extra level of protection.

The base of each bulb is an E12 screw base making replacing bulbs when needed very easy to do. The bulbs are the following size 3.46 x 1.77 inches. (HxW)

Installation

As mentioned, these are powered by the mains, and they come with a 2.5m lead which should be long enough to connect to your outside socket or even inside the house if you are not lucky to have power installed in the garden. You will also notice each bulb has a hook making it easy to hang around the garden and can be fixed using cable ties or even hanging over nails you have in the fence.

 

Ollny has also considered safety and uses a durable commercial grade 20 AWG cable making them resistant to high temperature and aging plus with the fact they are IP45 rated no need to bring them in at wintertime they will be able to handle the cold. There is also a built-in spare fuse which offers an extra level of safety.

Performance

The G40 come with 50 bulbs and are globe-shaped 1W LEDs as bright as the 5W incandescent bulbs but save energy in the process. They also offer a 15,000-hour long lifespan meaning you will have these outside for long periods without having to do much maintenance.

These string lights give off a lovely 2200k warm light so when the sun does go down the party can continue making them perfect for any garden party or celebration. They give an extra touch to the summer evenings.

Verdict

If you are looking to have a lot of late-evening gatherings now it’s summer and want a set of easy-to-install outside lights, then the G40 string lights are an excellent option. When you consider the cost of only £34.49 they feel like excellent value for money.
