We have all been there: We packed our suitcases perfectly and ironed all our clothes ready for the holiday. Then, when we arrive at our hotel room, we open that case, and everything is a crumpled and creased mess. How does this happen?

Well, I think I have found the answer. In this review, we cover the Tefal Pure Pop handheld clothes steamer, which will be the only thing to take out of your case crease-free.

First Impressions/Unboxing

The Tefal Pure Pop is a portable clothes steamer that heats up in just 15 seconds. It pumps out 20g of steam a minute and comes with a 70ml water tank.

The Tefal Pure Pop can be used vertically or horizontally without the need for an ironing board. Just hang on your wardrobe and away you go. You can also lay flat when taking on tough-to-tackle areas such as a collar or cuff.

When you remove the pure pop out of the packaging you will notice instantly just how uniquely slim the body on this device is making it stand out. The Tefal Pure Pop comes in three colours:

  • Alpine Blue
  • Coral Red
  • Sunshine Yellow

When unboxing in addition to the main device you are also provided with a useful travel bag and a handy reversible pad that has a velvet side for steaming delicates safely. Switch it around and it is a lint removal tool great for removing pet hair or even human hair before getting rid of the creases.

Tefal Pure Pop Review

When it comes to price I advise you to shop around as the Tefal site has these priced at £49.99 but Amazon seem to sell these at £38 so shop around for a bargain.

Design

The Tefal Pure Pop comes in a sleek design that offers a compact and lightweight device that you can simply just pack in your suitcase ready for when you need it.

When it comes to the device itself at the rear you have a heating light indicator, power switch and cord.

Switch it around to the front you have the steam head with a removable head. Under that you will find the steam button and making up the base is the removable water tank.  You will also notice some subtle branding on the side of the device.

The water tank is very easy to remove and comes with a measuring mark on it so you can’t overfill and also the water inlet cap. The detachable water tank allows for ease of use and emptying when you’re finished.  The Tefal Pure Pop also comes with a 2m power cord ideal for when you’re using it at home or in a hotel room.

Setup

The Tefal Pure Pop is so simple to use simply remove the water tank by sliding it down. Then open the rubber water inlet cap and fill it with water to the limit on the max level. Finally, replace the stopper and put the water tank back into the device and it’s ready to be plugged in.

Once plugged in switch on the appliance by the sliding switch and wait 15 seconds before you press the steam button. The light indicator will switch off when it’s hot enough. Then press the steam button with the steam head facing away from you and hold it in a vertical position.

Then pass the steam jet over your outfit from top to bottom in a vertical position at either 30 or 90 degrees. Always pass the steamer in contact with your garment. Something to consider never use it in a horizontal position and never have your outfit on at the same time as steaming. Once finished simply unplug and leave it to cool down it’s recommended you leave this for 1 hour before putting this away. Once cooled make sure you empty the water tank!

Performance

I have recently been to a work awards night and a trip to Paris and I took this with me to test it out and also make sure my outfit was crease-free. We have all been there It is a black tie event and for us men, the shirt gets creased instantly on your travel to the hotel even though it’s been in a suit carrier or ladies you want to remove the wrinkles out of that stunning dress before putting it on.

The Tefal Pure Pop is so easy to use once you have followed the instructions I provided above. Simply switch up the slider and wait for the indicator light to go off which should take 15 seconds then you’re ready to use.

I have used this on a crumpled shirt and after hanging up the shirt I pressed the steam button and started. The process was straightforward I put the soft velvet pad onto the fabric and moved the steamer from the top to the bottom keeping the pad in contact with the fabric at all times. You are recommended to keep the steamer upright at a 30 or 90-degree angle. Do not use it horizontally!

I have tried the Pure Pop on several shirts and also asked my wife to try this on some of her outfits and we were both very impressed with just how quickly this device smoothed out the creases and wrinkles in your outfit. What we did notice was you only get about one tank of water for one garment which is a little disappointing but do consider this device is designed as a travel steamer so the water tank size was not an issue.

Something to consider the Pure Pop steamer does not come with a built-in anti-calc filter. So if you live in a hard water area and notice the performance decreases over time. Tefal recommends removing the steam pad and filling the tank with 50% water & 50% white vinegar. Then blasting the steam until the tank is empty. Then repeat with a full tank of water until empty and this should improve the performance.

Verdict

Are you looking for a compact device that is easy to use and is perfect for holidays and when you have that black tie event? This device is ideal when you just want to remove these stubborn creases when you do not have an iron & ironing board to hand.

In testing, the Pure Pop made light work of creases, leaving that shirt or dress looking freshly ironed. This steamer is straightforward to set up and use, so the Tefal Pure Pop ticks that box.

As mentioned earlier in this review the device is excellent value for money but as mentioned shop about it as the price point does change depending on where you buy your tech between £49 to £38 so if you’re looking for a lightweight clothes steamer to get you out of trouble on holiday or when getting ready for a special event. The Pure Pop is an excellent accessory for your laundry toolbox.
