The Apple Watch 6 is official, and it’s the company sixth-generation smartwatch that launched alongside a new cheaper alternative – the Apple Watch SE – and a flurry of new iPad products.

The Apple Watch 6 was today unveiled at today’s Time Files event that was live-streamed due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
You’re able to pre-order the Apple Watch 6 from today, and the smartwatch will be out on Friday, September 18.
The Apple Watch 6 will start at $399 / £379 / AU$599 for the 40mm version, and the 44mm version starts at $429 / £409 / AU$649. If you want an LTE-ready watch, the 40mm starts at $499 / £479 / AU$749 with the 44mm starting at $529 / £509 / AU$799.
Apple Watch 6 design and display
The Apple Watch 6 looks very similar to the Apple Watch 5 before it. However, there are a few changes in terms of the colours available. The Apple Watch 6 includes a blue aluminium case as well as a gold version of the stainless steel variant. You can also get the cases in graphite and red as well. There are also two main sizes of the watch 40mm & 44mm which is what you will also find with series 5.
The Apple Watch 6 has improved and brought back the always-on display. Now 2.5 times brighter compared to previous models. Which will be ideal with the nights drawing in earlier now.
The watch also allows access to the Notification Center, Control Center plus you can change watch faces without having to fully wake up the watch.
Apple has also announced a range of new bands types including new colours for straps such as the solo loop and braided solo loop
Apple Watch 6 fitness
A new feature for the Apple Watch 6 is a new health sensor that allows you to check your blood oxygen levels which can be checked via a blood oxygen app in under 15 seconds. The watch will take background readings over the day that can help you check for any indication of underlying health problems. Series 6 also comes with the usual fitness features you get with the series 5.
Apple Watch 6 power and battery
You are given a new S6 processor in this watch and makes it 20% faster than the Apple Watch Series 5 chipset. You also 18 hours battery life and faster charging in just 1.5 hours for a full charge. You also get an altimeter on the Series 6 which provides you with real-time elevation data throughout the day.
Apple has also revealed another feature, but only in the watch-wide feature spread above. That is the U1 Ultra Wideband that is a chip that appeared in the iPhone 11 range.
Apple Watch 6 software
The Apple Watch 6 comes with a new version of the software onboard specifically watchOS7. This includes new workouts, streamlined complications, sleep tracking and with the current climate a handwashing tracker. As mentioned previously with the blood oxygen tracker you will also get a notifaction if a change happens.
