Google has finally introduced the first developer preview of the long-awaited Android 12 to the Google Pixel 3 series, Pixel 4 series, and Pixel 5 series smartphones. Hopefully, Android 12 which is the next version of Android software (successor to Android 11) will be available anytime this year. Although they are already available for download on Google Pixel phones for now.

The most interesting thing about Android version 12 is the new features and changes. It has much better, and improved features to be compared to the regular Android 11.

A few days ago Google announced the Android 12 Developer Preview 1 that can only be installed on the following Google Pixel devices: Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 respectively. Users of these smartphones are lucky enough to take part as one of the initial users of Android 12.

Alternatively, Google Pixel device users can also install the update via the Android Emulator in Android Studio. As knowledge continues to increase, technology will also continue to improve. The developers are still trying to see if the update can also be applicable to Android TV Apps.

What is the Android 12 release timeline?

Following the release timeline details Google published, we should expect the following below.

  1. Android 12 Developer Preview 1: February
  2. Android 12 Developer Preview 2: March
  3. Android 12 Developer Preview 3: April
  4. Android 12 Beta 1: May
  5. Android 12 Beta 2, 3: June-July
  6. Android 12 Beta 4: August

Furthermore, Google has decided that Android 12 will reach the ‘Platform Stability’ stage when it gets to the Beta 4 stage in August. In a nutshell, that is to say, the update will be made available for all Android devices in August. Apps designed for Android 12 will also be able to offer an audio-coupled haptic response. That is to say, users will enjoy an improved, and immersive audio experiences with the Android 12.

This first developer preview of Android 12 also offers foreground service optimizations. Interestingly, Google has endeavored to embed an immersive mode to smoothen the gesture navigation making Android 12 more consistent and efficient to deliver. Android 12 features an Android Runtime (ART) module that allows Google to push new software updates to the core runtime and libraries available on devices.
