Lock App With Face ID

This feature will always keep the selected app locked unless it captures the facial recognition that matches the one used to lock the app. With this, you can now lock any supported app on your device (especially your finance / bank app) with Face ID to ensure an intact level of protection.

 

Hide Apps on Your iPhone

For some personal reasons you might want to hide an app(s) on your iPhone. The iOS 18 gives you such privileges to do so. This is not the same as locking your app with Face ID.

The app lock with Face ID requires facial recognition before the app will open but hiding your app will remove it from the Home screen or menu and keep it in a hiding (Settings) location that only you can access. To access any of the hidden apps, you’ll be required to authenticate with Face ID.

Hidden apps icon and name will not be visible once you have successfully completed the Hide process. You will not be able to see notifications from the apps you hide, but the apps will be moved to an obscured folder in the App Library.

 

App Access Restrictions on Contacts

iOS 18 will introduce app access restrictions  on Contacts, making it more difficult for malicious apps to access your contacts in your address book. This could include restrictions on sharing contact details and limiting access to certain contact groups.

While some apps have legitimate reasons for needing this access, like social media and messaging apps that use contacts to facilitate connecting with friends, family, or colleagues.

With this feature you can select which contacts you want to allow the app access to and not all your contacts. But if you want the app to have access to all your contacts in your address book, the choice remains yours.
