Home Security is a sector of the market we are taking a deep dive into what is available on the market with reviews completed from brands such as Swann & Ring. So when Blurams contacted us to review the Dome Lite 2 how could we say no? The Dome Lite 2 is a budget-friendly camera currently available for £29.99.

Who is Blurams?

Blurams are a company that was founded only 4 years in 2018 and they focus on security products that help its consumers live carefree lives. Blurams saw issues that other brands were causing issues for its users like too many push notifications.

So Blurams have developed facial recognition to reduce push notifications of trivial things and this technology is cutting edge in the industry. When Blurams identifies a person’s face it will auto-play a voice message for the person.

The software behind the range of security cameras is also IFTTT compatible so allowing you to link to your smart home set-up. Blurams pride itself on producing smarter and simpler home solutions.

First Impressions

The Dome Lite 2 key features include 2K resolution person detection and 360-degree coverage, a two-way microphone and a 110dB siren to scare an intruder All making this a fantastic option to keep the inside of your house safe. The design of the Dome Lite 2 is very similar to the rest of the range offered by Blurams.

Design

The Dome Lite 2 has a spherical camera mounted in a circular base and is only 6 inches in height. The white casing is made from ABS plastic and that covers most of the device apart from the black housing around the lens and the grey base of the device. There is a small logo on the front of the device and you will also see a green LED that indicates when the device is in power.

The ball-shaped module houses the 2K camera and 109-degree viewing angle. This is paired with a motorised pan and tilt which will give you a 355-degree pan, as well as a 95-degree tilt and this, will provide you with full coverage of the room.

Take a closer look at the lens and you will see it has 8 LEDs that are all infrared and provide 22 feet of illumination in low light or at night. The camera also comes with a speaker to give you contact with the family while you are away and also a siren to scare off potential intruders.

In terms of installation, the base of the Dome Lite 2 has 3 small rubber feet which allow you to place it on any surface such as a shelf in the living room. There is also the option to install it on the wall or ceiling and the device offers everything required to mount the device.

You will also notice this is a wired camera which has its pros and cons for example no need to charge the camera up but the negative is you need it near a power source. You are provided with a 6ft USB cable and AC adapter but this will factor in where you decide to locate the camera.

Blurams also offer you a range of video storage options such as a 24-hour loop recording with cloud storage and this will provide you with no extra cost or you can purchase a microSD card to record and save footage but this is an extra cost. Either option will provide you with a 10-second video any time it recognizes a human and that footage will be available for a 24-hour window on the free option. There are other paid-for options but we will go into more detail on that later.

Last but not least the camera can only be used indoors as you might have expected and in terms of connectivity it can only be linked to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band instead of the 5GHz option this was not an issue as my broadband router is dual-band but just check this before you make the purchase.

Features

The Dome Lite 2 comes with the Blurams app which just like the Ring app and Swann security app allows you remote access and is available on both IOS and Android.

Inside the app is where it gets interesting. You can pan and tilt the camera and also zoom in. The app also allows you to connect up to 4 additional cameras so you could have coverage in multiple rooms in the house.

The app also allows you to power off the camera if you wish and this closes a shutter on the lens housing which will conceal the SD card slot but also provide you with privacy.

The Dome Lite 2 as mentioned at the start of this review is IFTTT compatible meaning you can link it into your smart home set-up and if you wish to pair it to Alexa right off the bat and this will allow you to control the camera via your smart assistant.

The most interesting feature in my opinion is the advanced person detection feature. The camera uses AI to sense when a human is in the shot and automatically record a 10-second video alert. This will provide you with a notification on your phone that you can instantly view on your phone and the footage will remain for 24 hours on the non-subscription offering.

Last but not least this camera also provides 2-way audio which is designed to frighten an intruder or scare the living daylights out of my young son who thought he was home alone and would eat my ice cream. This camera allowed me to prevent such a crime lol. If you really want to frighten a possible intruder the Dome Lite 2 allows you remotely to activate a siren and at 110dB it’s loud and this alone should frighten someone off.

Video Recording

The Dome Lite 2 1080p resolution provides you with more than adequate video footage for use inside. The camera can also provide 360-degree coverage but there is a big but you can not record 360-degree coverage at once. What you have is the ability to pan, tilt and zoom. Using these functions can be found via the app.

Blurams also provide you with the ability to record a night and include 8 infrared LED’s around the lens. Why do they do this?

The LED lights allow you to illuminate objects and more importantly people from 27 feet away the LED lights are invisible to the naked eye so you won’t have 8 LED lights on display at night that would alert an intruder. The video footage is very clear when used at night but what you will notice is the footage is black and white which is fairly normal when it comes to infrared footage.

Data Storage

The camera will record clean and crisp footage by day or night but you need to store that footage Blurams provide you with two options:

Option 1

You can record directly to the cloud which allows you to access the footage with ease simply via your phone. It provides 24/7 recording without a storage limit. Now Blurams offer you 1-month of free storage for you to try before you buy. This provides you with 7 days of continuous cloud recording for 30 days and the footage is uploaded to the Amazon AWS Cloud. Now in terms of costs, a 7-day loop will cost you $5 a month after your free month trial and then there is a 15 or 30-day video plan for up to $149 a year so consider this only if you really want access to your footage instantly.

Option 2

If you would prefer to save the pennies and are not too concerned with cloud storage the device allows you to record onto a micro SD card. The Dome Lite 2 will accept up to 128GB on an SD card allowing you to store several days of footage in one place.

Verdict

If you are looking for a budget-friendly option this has to be up there in terms of security cameras to consider at only £30 it’s hard to beat. The 2K resolution and 360-degree coverage via the pan, tilt and zoom functions provide decent-quality video footage at this price point.

I found the inclusion of night footage, two-way audio and the 110dB siren to be excellent features but the stand-out feature on this camera is AI advanced person detection which should reduce the number of incorrect notifications dramatically.

The Blurams Dome Lite 2 is well built and won’t stand out in any room the fact its needs to be plugged in might annoy a few people but Blurams also have a wireless version so it’s more down-to-person preference on what style of camera you picked but in this case, based on the price point it’s hard to find fault. The app is also a breath of fresh air, unlike the Swann Security app. The Blurams app comes with no lag and can view footage as they happen. The app also allows you to purchase another 4 cameras for full coverage around the home. I was also happy with the fact you can link these cameras into your smart home set-up as they are IFTTT compatible.

So for a budget-friendly option, this is well worth considering but can you put a price on home security?
