US Audio Brand Cleer are back with the Cleer Enduro ANC which is a red dot winner 2020. These overhead headphones scream premium design but at a budget price of only £149 for a pair of ANC headphones, it’s great value for money.
Design
The Cleer Enduro ANC come in 3 different colours Light Grey, Sand & Navy. In this review, we were sent the Navy version of the headphones and they use a blend of the navy and gold trim to offer a tasteful design. What if I put them next to my Sennheiser Momentum 3 which are double the price and you might question which is the more expensive pair of headphones.
The Cleer Enduro ANC also uses a lot of matt finish plastic with an aluminium headband that has a nice amount of padding.
The headphones are nice and lightweight and you can fold them flat and put them in the soft pouch that also comes with the headphones for when not in use. It’s not my favoured hard carrying case but it’s still protection. You also get the standard USB-C, 3.5mm charging cable and flight adapter for when we can travel again.
As mentioned the Cleer Enduro ANC comes with that padded headband which is adjustable and the earcups can both pivot and rotate which adds to the overall comfort. My personal experience with these was after about 2 hours of use I got a bit of head cramp and found the leather padding a little sweaty after a while which is a shame as you want your earcups to be breathable as it adds to the comfort. This is just my view and the comfort might be different if you try them.
Moving to the controls everything is located on the left cup and the controls are very easy to use. You have the following controls:
A power button that doubles up as a play/Pause and phone call controls. On either side of these buttons, you have your track controls which also double up as your volume.
Under these buttons, you also have the ANC button that can also be used to switch on ambient mode and smart assistant. These headphones also come with a special feature a long press of the ANC button you activate the conversation mode which will reduce the sound and allow you to have a conversation or listen out for an announcement at a train station.
When you first switch on the headphones they automatically pair via Bluetooth 5.0 and supports aptX adaptive which offers an excellent Bluetooth standard. If you want hi-res audio compatibility simply plug the USB-C into a 3.5mm cable and that offers you that way to enjoy your music.
Battery Life
One of the stand out features on the Cleer Enduro ANC is the battery life it comes with a whopping 60 hours battery life even with ANC! Try and find a pair of overhead headphones that offer that long I will wait.
I have been using these for a week solid now and have not had to charge these once what kind of crazy magic is this! The only downside is when you eventually drain the battery it takes 3 hours to fully charge these however need a quick boost a 10 min charge will give you 2 hours of playtime which will give you that welcome boost if you somehow use all of this monster battery life.
Sound Quality
The Cleer Enduro ANC offer a really enjoyable experience when it comes to the sound profile if you love your bass these tick that box. Listening to some rock music and you will enjoy a bass-heavy sound profile.
The Headphones come with 40mm ironless drivers and deliver clarity at highs and the mids that you might have expected from my Sennhisers. The sound clear and crisp regardless of the genre of music I listened to. When you listen to a podcast like the Wrestletalk podcast and you get a focused experience with very clear vocals.
Moving to the ANC as you know recently we have been in lockdown so travelling was a little difficult. So when using these indoors it did cut down the majority of unwanted noise in my house when am listening to my music.
When I took these headphones out for a walk the ANC worked very well we have a train station near the house and it did remove that unwanted train noise as it passed by.
You also have the Ambient mode which also works very well the microphones picked out the voices I wanted to hear at the same time as blocking out that unwanted noise you might have in the background. In terms of the overall sound with either ANC or Ambient mode on you won’t notice any issues to the overall sound and that bass still works.
The Cleer Enduro ANC also allows you to take and make calls and when tested the sound when I was on the phone with a friend was clear and sharp and when asked if my friend could hear me he had no issues at all he did say the built-in mic did pick up some unwanted noise where I was but nothing to overly impact my phone call. In terms of headphones, I have tested Cleer have done a very good job with the Enduro ANC.
The sound of the Cleer Enduro ANC just like Jabra and Sennheiser comes with its app called Cleer+ which is available on either Android or iOS. This app allows you to switch on ANC and ambient mode on/off if pressing a button on the headphones is too hard for you. What it does do is offer 10 different levels for the ambient mode. Also on the app is the option to customise the EQ which is a nice option considering the cost of the headphones.
Another feature that only works well but only for these Andriod users is the Google fast pair 2.0 which does make set up so easy as your phone gets a notification as soon as it detects the headphones in pairing mode.
Verdict
The Cleer Enduro ANC are a very good pair of headphones that offer an excellent audio experience. They look great and sound just as good I did find after a long period of listening I got a bit of audio fatigue and the earcups did warm-up meaning when I was finished with these I was a bit of a hot mess. However, this was just my experience and being a naturally hot person I have this issue with sweaty ears regardless of what am testing.
I thought the cost of these headphones was fantastic at £149 which makes them very affordable. I like the ability to fold these away when not in use. I was impressed with the overall sound but the true star of the show here is that monster battery life so if you want a pair of headphones that you will most likely only need to charge them once a week on moderate use of these headphones 60 hours beats every pair of headphones I have ever reviewed so hats off Cleer.
