D-Link VR Air Bridge For Quest 2 Wireless PC VR Review

The D-Link VR Air Bridge currently costs £100 but what does it do?

The VR Air Bridge was created to provide a low-latency dedicated wireless connection between your gaming PC and your Meta Quest ( Compatible with the Quest 2, 3 or Quest Pro models). It is designed to get the most out of your VR experience.

The Air link lets your Oculus Quest act as a wireless PC VR headset via your home Wi-Fi network.  However, some users might find the signal can be degraded by the distance of the router or obstacles like a wall congesting the network.

The D-Link VR Air Bridge helps create a direct Wi-Fi 6 link between your PC and your VR Headset avoiding any signal issues.

Unboxing

D-Link has kept everything quite simple you will find the adapter itself and its cradle plus a built-in 2-meter extension cable.  This allows you to position the antenna to get an uninterrupted direct view of your headset, which should provide you with the best possible signal quality.

Set up

When you first set up the VR Air Brdige you need to connect the adapter to your PC. Then you will be prompted by Windows to reboot for its function. This needs to be done overwise it simply won’t work.

Once rebooted to set up the VR Air Bridge you need to open up the Oculus PC app and you will be prompted to select a password to set up what’s essentially a standard Wi-Fi network.

Next, to connect from your headset you will have to type this password inside VR. (Something to consider if you buy a new headset in the future you need to remember this password so keep it safe). A slight negative is you will have to switch Wi-Fi networks in your headset whenever you want to switch from using Quest 2 for PC VR to stand-alone.

How does it work? / Performance

Using the VR Air Bridge for SteamVR Gaming is where it shines the performance was amazing. I had no experience of any dropped frames from the network, only regular dropped frames that the GPU failed to render on time.

Would I say is this device worth the investment?

Well, it comes down to where your PC VR setup is in your home. If your set-up is by your router and your PC is wired to it. I would say just replace the router you can buy a Wi-Fi 6 router for around the £50 mark. A new router will connect with your device much better. It’s also worth considering D-Link VR Air Bridge won’t work with Meta’s Quest Pro currently.

However, If your PC VR Playspace is away from your router and you’re not up for a high-quality wireless setup with an access point it’s a lot of work. You need to buy a powerline adapter and run ethernet across multiple rooms or if you use a laptop you need to remember to wire it up each time. Then purchasing something like D-Link VR Air Bridge provides convenience.
