Bite-sized speakers packing with high quality sound for £89.99, we look at the interesting take on the Edifier G2000 Gaming Speakers.

Nifty Build And Design:

Edifier G2000 speakers on table unboxed

The Edifier G200 starts off strongly when taking the speakers out of the box, with a sturdy build quality and a design that complements gaming setups well, due to their small size that can either be hidden in room corners or sit proudly on a desktop without being an eyesore.

These speakers have a modern, aggressive design to appeal to gamers, alongside a sleek black colourway that works nicely alongside the RGB lighting. The hexagonal or honeycomb shape of the speakers makes them look rather techy and futuristic, almost security camera-like. This will certainly receive mixed opinions, but I like that they are certainly not boring in shape.

G2000 spread out

The fact that the Edifier G2000 speakers are so small is a big plus in my opinion, as they will likely slot into most people’s gaming set-ups with very little distress. The wire linking the two twin speakers is also long enough to stretch around a desk or room, so users of the G2000 can really customise where they put their speakers with little limitation.

Solid Sound Quality:

Edifier have equipped the G2000 with an enhanced audio quality tailored for gaming, including clear and immersive sound, with emphasis on low-frequency response for impactful gaming effects. The drivers are small, coming in at only 2.75 inches, however that isn’t necessarily bad, apart from the fact that it slightly limits how good the sound quality can be.

Each gunshot or grenade explosion in FPS games like Call of Duty or Apex Legends has an extra clear sound to it, to an extent immersing the player into the game. There is no sub-bass as expected with such small speakers which is of course a downside, especially for when playing FPS games, but the strength of the mids and highs definitely make up for this lack of sub-woofer kick.

Similarly, the crowd noise in sports games like FC24 or Madden 24 is clear, crisp and authentically sounding when playing out of the G2000, which is testament to Edifier for packing a good level of sound quality for the highs and mids in particular, all in such a small speaker set, but make sure not to expect absolutely premium sound quality.

Of course, the sound isn’t as booming or high quality as say a Logitech G560 or a LG UltraGear GP9, but those two speakers, despite being comparable in size, cost almost triple of what the Edifier G2000 costs, which at £89.99 starts to look like a good deal.

Interchangeable RGB Lighting:

Edifier made a good decision by including RGB lighting for aesthetic appeal, allowing gamers to match their G2000 speakers with whatever their other RGB lights are displaying, as these days every element of a gamers set-up probably has RGB’s in it.

There are three customisable light ‘zones’ on the G2000, with two strips near the back of the speaker on either side, partnered by a rather slapped on big light that looks almost like rear lights on a car or bike.

These RGB’s are equipped with 12 different lighting colours or effects that can be operated and changed using a small switch located on the left side of one of the speakers. The RGB lighting on the G2000 speakers work well not only for gaming, but for general room ambience when watching Netflix or when working at your desk.

Great Connectivity Options:

Various connectivity options are available on the Edifier G2000, including wired connections such as USB or 3.5mm audio jack and wireless options (Bluetooth), providing flexibility for different gaming setups.

This is actually one of the best things about the G2000, as we are given a plethora of ways to connect the speakers, meaning we can use the speakers on any console, monitor, PC or other devices that are compatible with USB, Bluetooth or 3.5mm connectivity.

Selectable EQ Settings:

Equalizer settings on the Edifier G2000 allow users to seamlessly choose the audio output to their preferences, emphasizing certain frequencies for gaming, music, or other activities.

The settings include Game Mode, Music Mode and Movie Mode, that boost relative elements of the sound based on the certain game, song, or movie. These modes can be applied easily using the switch on the side of the speaker.

Final Thoughts – Worth It?

The Edifier G2000 puts up a solid performance in most departments, hitting the mark with sound quality in terms of clarity and crispness of sound. However, the lack of a sub-bass is something to note if that is a deal-breaker for you and I feel people with an undying passion for great sound quality may pick apart the G2000 a bit, which I feel is unfair when you factor in the price and size.

The biggest draw to the G2000 is most definitely it’s ease-of-use, desk-friendly size and wide range of compatibility that make it a dream for on-the-go people who will be taking their speakers from place to place, or for people who want a relatively budget set of speakers that will seamlessly slot in amongst their setups, delivering a solid sound quality to go with it and some fancy lights for the hell of it.
