For example, you want to hear everything or chat with Friends online a pair of gaming headphones are required. We here at What Gadget have recently reviewed the JBL Quantum 300 & JBL Quantum One.
In this review, we are focusing on audio brand Edifier who we have reviewed a number of their audio products such as Edifier Neobuds Pro & Edifier TWS NB2 Pro In this review, we are focusing on the gaming side of Edifier with the GX High Fidelity & W820 NB gaming headsets. In this review, we will be looking at the Edifier GX gaming headset.
The Edifier GX gaming headset is compatible with most gaming consoles such as PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch to just name a few and are available for £74.99.

In terms of comfort, the ear cups include a soft leatherette padding for sound isolation which is also is on the headband to add to comfort for long periods of use. Finally on the headphones is a built-in microphone with dual mics that also assist with reducing unwanted noise.
The key specification of these headphones include:

Design
The Edifier GX gaming headphones are a nicely built pair of gaming headphones that use high-quality plastic in the design as well as the soft leatherette in the padding on the cups and headband. The earcups on the outside have an RGB LED ring with an H in the middle to indicate they are high fidelity gaming headphones I expect. This design looks very futuristic something you could say reminds me of the light on iron man’s suit. In terms of controls, they are all positioned on the left cup such as volume controls, controls for the mic and LED display.
Overall, the build quality is decent and feels sturdy. Edifier has considered the fact gamers will use this for multiple hours and this resulted in a nicely padded headband as well as padded ear cups. I also found the RGB LED’s offer a nice finish to a well-built pair of gaming headphones.
Performance
We tested the Edifier GX on a series of gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PC and PS4 and found using the PC offered the best overall sound quality. You connect your headphones to your PC using the USB-C to USB-A cable which is included.
We played a variety of games but on the PC it was a game of COD (Call of Duty) that impressed us the most. What was given to us was a well-developed sound profile offering crisp sound ideal when you’re shooting an opponent. The mids and hights add to the enjoyment as sound effects from the game are crystal clear. Moving to the bass the sounds of explosions were produced well without any damage to the rest of the sound.
The Edifier GX can also be used when watching a film for example on your PS4 and when watching something like Avengers: End Game the sound provided blow me away. Every battle was amplified into my ears to offer that extra special sound and made me enjoy the film even more.
You can also use the Edifier GX to simply listen to music as well and when I played “Purple Rain by Prince”. You got some great bass without sounding too harsh on the highs or vocals in the song. The guitar solo just sounds glorious which is pleasing as these headphones can be used the whole time am trying to chill out from a days work.
The Microphone
When playing online games having a built-in microphone on a pair of gaming headphones is a must and the Edifier GX provide that. However, the sound quality is a little bit of a letdown. The sound that comes from the mic is a little tinny and most definitely lacks some warmth. You will still be able to use it but it’s not the best gaming mice on the market.
Verdict
The Edifier GX comes in at under £100 and it offers a quality sounding gaming headset. It’s not perfect with the below-par built-in microphone but that should not affect you too much when gaming.
I love the look of these headphones especially the LED design on the cups and found the fact the headphones are compatible with most gaming consoles to be a big bonus as if you are like me who has a gaming Laptop as well as a PS4 the fact I only need one pair of gaming headphones is a big bonus.
If you are looking for a lightweight and comfortable pair of gaming headphones this is a great option to consider. The audio quality is excellent with a crisp and balanced soundstage and strong bass without affecting the rest of the gaming profile. You can also adjust the EQ, volume and change the LED colour offering that personalised gaming experience.
So if you’re looking for a pair of gaming headphones but budget is an important consideration the Edifier GX offers outstanding connectivity with a high level of comfort these are well worth considering.
The only slight negative is the microphone but the general gamer won’t have any issues but the pros in the room will want a better mic set up. That to one side the Edifier GX ticks a lot of boxes and for under £100 this gaming headset will please most users.
