Enjoy gaming, particularly first-person shooter games such as Call of Duty. Using a pair of gaming earbuds can take your gaming experience up a notch and make it more immersive. In this review, we check out the Final VR2000 which is the upgrade on the Final VR3000 we reviewed back in 2022 and the Final VR2000 is currently available for £59.99 via Amazon.
First Impressions
The Final VR2000 gaming earbuds offer an immersive and detailed soundstage that gives every audio cue a real sense of direction. I found when playing COD you can hear everything from nearby gunfire in vivid detail giving you an edge over your rivals.
The Final VR2000 are lightweight and compatible with those who enjoy gaming on a PC as well as all the consoles such as PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Meta Quest, Xbox Series X and even mobile gaming. Unfortunately Final has still kept the microphone from the Final VR3000 which is not the best your in-game chat will sound fine but I would recommend a standalone microphone if you are a regular gamer.
Design
The Final VR2000 come in a dark olive (Dark Green) version compared to the standard black you might expect. The dark green is a nod towards the intended audience as most users will be playing FPS games so the colour of these earphones makes sense. Apart from the colour the the VR2000 and VR3000 models are identical meaning both still have that angular shape which fits well in the ear.
The Final VR2000 are lightweight at only 20g and is worn with the cable pointed upwards and hooked around the top of each earphone for additional support. These factors allow the feeling of them being secure and comfortable even when used for long periods which is a big plus especially how long the average game of COD can take.
The VR200 come with two vents on the inner side and the nozzle is just about the right size for a deep fit. The fixed cable has some strain relief near the housing and the 3.5mm termination. There is also a small bump on the strain relief of the left earpiece, making it easy to identify the left earpiece without looking.
In addition to the design of the earphones, you are also provided with five alternate ear tips that are colour-coded which allow you to find the best fit. This means you should not require ear hooks but you are provided with a pair if you so wish but they do feel very fragile. All of this can be kept safe when not in use with the provided carry pouch.
Performance
The Final VR2000 perform very well when playing any kind of First Person Shooter game we tested these playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the results are as you would hope they give you that impressive sense of direction that makes playing FPS games so immersive. When playing the game the VR2000 gives you the chance to identify where a footstep from the competition is coming from or instructions when playing the game making a real difference to if you are going to win this battle without any concern of latency or delay.
How do they do this? Well F-core DU is Final’s proprietary dynamic driver platform characterized by a brass driver chamber, ultra-light suspension mechanism and an ultra-thin voice coil. This results in better driver matching.
The sound quality of the VR2000 is less than the VR3000 model when it comes to bass. I would have liked more bass as the lack of bass prevents the loud effects from explosions which I love. However, I can see some consumers will prefer the toned-back bass as it prevents these explosions from becoming too overwhelming and makes you focus on more important sounds such as footsteps from the enemy. The VR2000 also come with crystal clear mids so that any vocals on the game come up clearly.
However, all of the positives mentioned come with disappointment in the shape of the in-line microphone it is bang average! In testing, I found it did a poor job of blocking out background noise and when you consider other earbuds aimed at gamers you can get better microphones on cheaper alternatives.
Verdict
The Final VR2000 offer fantastic binaural and 3D audio playback and the ability to know where gunshots or any other events during the game is head and shoulders above the competition. The Final VR2000 are a fantastic option when gaming on the PS5 or when on the move using a Nintendo Switch then you should add these to your gaming accessories.
So if you are after a pair of earbuds to use in FPS games these are on point. I found the audio quality was fantastic and this is paired with a great level of comfort for long periods of gaming and the inclusion of five alternative eartips you will find the perfect level of comfort. Unfortunately, the in-line microphone being average and the 1.2m non-detachable cable being a tad short for desktop gamers means this review misses out on our Editor’s Choice Award but does scoop our What Gadget Recommended Award.
How could they improve the Final VR2000?
I would have liked a longer cable up to 2 meters would have been great as this would be more of an attractive option for desktop gamers as most will use their headphone jack when gaming. With the current length any sudden movements when gaming could tug the cable if there is not much slack. The other improvement would be with the in-line microphone being average it does let down the gaming experience a little. However, if you own a separate mic and use these headphones for the likes of a PS5 or Nintendo Switch you would find these take your gaming experience up a notch.
