It wasn’t that long ago that we were tied to our PCs or consoles if we fancied a gaming session. But handheld gaming has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years, with the long–awaited release of the Nintendo Switch and the use of mobile devices.
Now, we all have access to high-powered phones and tablets with superfast video and huge storage capacity and memory. It means there are now thousands of cool games available for download. This article looks at just some of the games that play well across all devices.
Fortnite
Sometimes it seems like Fortnite is everywhere – and it looks like that is actually truer than you think, because this addictive, iconic game also works well on your smartphone.
Thankfully, you won’t need to create a different account for each device you play on if you are already hooked on this immensely popular “Battle Royale” game. It is cross-platform compatible, meaning that you can buy and earn stuff when you are playing on your PC and then retrieve them whilst playing on your phone.
Crashlands
Many games begin on one platform and then migrate to others when their popularity justifies it. Crashlands, however, is unique, seeing as how the developers intended for it to be playable on both mobile and PC platforms by default.
Crashlands is similar to games like Don’t Starve and Minecraft. You take on the role of Flux Danes, a galactic delivery man who is shot down and crashes down on an alien world.
You’re forced to forge your own existence by constructing a base, fending off predators, and gathering alien eggs that hatch and become your pets.
Because it is cross-platform, you do not lose any progress or achievements made between the mobile and PC versions. BscotchID is used by the game to sync the saves across all devices. When you stop playing on your PC, you simply tell your smartphone to sync the saves so you can pick up wherever you left off.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is a farming simulation game based on the Harvest Moon video game series. At the beginning of the game, players construct a character who inherits a plot of land and a little house once held by their grandfather in the quaint setting of Pelican Town.
Stardew Valley is probably one of the best indie games in recent years and is something of a masterpiece filled with romance, adventure, and a lot of soothing vibes.
Stardew’s playability has stood the test of time for years and years, thanks to a steady flow of huge upgrades that are added to the game regularly for free. Now that it’s included in Xbox Game Pass and works well on mobile devices, we suspect that a new swarm of players will almost certainly be making a trek into the valleys for the first time.
Hearthstone
Hearthstone is a collectable card game that is played online. If you’ve not played this before, then think Magic: The Gathering cards or Pokémon but set in the World of Warcraft universe.
It’s a free-to-play platform where you can purchase in-game items that can boost the power of your deck.
A player takes on the role of one of many Warcraft character classes in Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft from Hunter, Druid, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Rogue etc., then you put together a playable deck of cards, each with a unique attack, defence, buff, and debuff abilities that affect the other cards and player.
Hearthstone is a game that is a lot like poker and is available to play on both Mac and PC and is also perfectly suitable for mobile devices.
Slot & Casino Games
Talking of poker, it isn’t just platform games that can be played on your PC and your mobile device. With the amazing technology that is available today, you can play at your favourite licensed and regulated casinos and enjoy table games and slots on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.
Most iGaming platforms use HTML5 tech, so you can play the latest games on your smartphone browser, needing to download an app first.
Roblox
Roblox is more of a gaming platform than a game, with thousands of user-created adventures in a shared virtual world. The player establishes a Roblox account, builds a blocky LEGO-inspired avatar, and is free to explore the environments and mini-games created by other players that use the Roblox Studio tools for game creation.
Within Roblox’s blocky, modular environment, people can create their own locations and areas, explore others’ areas, or play freely available mini-games created by millions of other players. With over 50 million active users, the opportunities are nearly limitless.
