Audio brand GravaStar is a brand that takes its designs from the world of Sci-fi and we saw this recently when we reviewed the GravaStar Venus Bluetooth Speaker it also produces the Mars Pro which I hope to review in the up and coming weeks. In this review, we got the opportunity to review the Sirius Pro TWS earbuds that comes in 5 different colours and costs £109.95 via Amazon but they also have two colours yellow and war-damaged grey which cost £129.95.
The key features these buds come with are as follows:
- 7.2mm dynamic drivers
- Three earphone modes: Music, Movie, Gaming
- Bottle Opener on case
- Six RGB Lights to personalise the case
- Bluetooth 5.2
- AAC codec
- IPX5 rated
First Impressions
The Sirius Pro are the most exceptional-looking wireless earbuds I have come across they are designed for gamers at heart and it’s easy to see why. The buds can also be used for audio or podcast listening. The case and buds would not feel out of place on the set of Mad Max.
Unboxing
The Gravastar Sirus Pro comes in sci-fi-themed packaging which is a hard plastic box with a glass window so you can see the buds on the case.
The case is really original compared to anything else on the market, Inside you have the cyberpunk-inspired charging case as well as 4 pairs of eartips, a USB-C charging cable, a user manual and a carry chain with fitting to create a lanyard.
Design
The first thing you see is the metal case it has a zinc alloy casing with P9 printed on the case at the top and the Gravastar logo printed at the bottom. The case is a lot heavier compared to my Jabra Elite 75t and also larger to fit in the pocket.
What you will notice is the charging case has a unique feature it has a bottle opener in the middle of the case. A unique feature may be useful on a day out and you decide to get a few beers. That aside a lot of people who I showed the Sirius Pro were blown away by the unique design. The case is roughly square in shape and features multiple grooves.
The lid has a skeletal arm that exposes the buds at same time keeping them securely in place. The lid has a spring-loaded arm that will flip open when you press the ridged button on the side of the case.
The case also has an RGB light strip on the base of the case that lights up when you place the buds back into the case but apart from being a nice look it does not actually serve a purpose. You can press the button on the base to change the RGB to six different colours and like I said it’s a nice showpiece and that is it.
The case does not allow wireless charging but it does store three full charges inside the case and the buds provide 5 hours of playtime which if being honest is a little below average when it comes to battery life but should still get you through the day. However, expect 4 hours if using the buds in gaming mode compared to 5 hours in music mode.
Moving to the earbuds they come in a dark grey metallic design with turquoise accents and a spider-like logo on the side. They are subtle in shape with a compact and comfortable feel in the ear without any concern that they will fall out and they hardly protrude out of your ear. The Sirius Pro’s are also IPX5 meaning they can handle a little rain or sweat which is a good thing with the UK in the middle of a heatwave.
Controls
The Sirius Pro uses touch controls and if you are used to touch controls you will get on just fine if not the below table should be of use:
Play/Pause | Tap L or R once |
Skip Song | Tap Right Twice |
Return to a Previous Track | Tap Left Twice |
Increase Volume | Hold right Bud |
Decrease Volume | Hold Left Bud |
Activate Voice Assistant | Tap either bud 4 times. |
Music Mode to Gaming Mode | Triple Tap Right Bud |
Music Mode to Movie Mode | Triple Tap Left Bud |
What you will find is all the controls you need have been set up even the volume which is missed by so many brands it’s normally either track control or volume. I had no issues with the level of responsiveness the controls offer and it will take a few days to master the controls but you will get there I promise.
Connectivity
The buds come with Bluetooth 5.2 and will give you around 10 meters range which is quite standard among buds at a similar price point. What you will also get is the buds come with master/slave technology meaning you can still listen to a bit of Kate Bush with just one bud while you are charging the other.
In addition to this technology the buds come with an automatic pause when you take the buds out and put them back the music will kick back in at the spot you removed the buds. However, the music will continue to play if you just took one bud out at a time so best remove both at once to pause the music at the point you want to stop.
The only issue I found is if you switch modes when you turn off the next time you use the buds the mode reverts back to music mode which is the default.
Sound Quality
The Sirius Pro earbuds pairs a balanced armature with a 7.2mm dynamic driver and the buds support Bluetooth 5.2 and support both AAC & SBC codecs. The dual driver enables the buds to produce a full crisp sound for the highs. These buds deliver a thick mid-bass that boosted and provides a generous thump. I have been hooked on some “Kate Nash – Running up that hill“. The bass provides plenty of power underneath, The sub-bass on songs like “Alice Merton -No Roots” that offer the darkest bass means you can really feel the bass which provides a moderately deep bass that results in a warm sound.
The treble is tamed which means there’s little air to the sound even though some instruments come in from both sides. When listening to “No Roots” the female vocal has warm underlining and is more prominent than the rest of the song. The electric guitars in the song don’t sound too harsh and provide plenty of detail in the process.
Switching on Movie or Gaming Mode
When you switch on either mode they add a bit of air to the sound and when watching a film it provides spaciousness within the sound of the film. When gaming that spaciousness is not very effective. The mids and brighter sound effects do not sound very loud and appear a little flat and recessed to detect footsteps around you when playing a game like call of duty.
Overall the movie and gaming modes failed to live up to the expectations as the weighty lower mids and restricted treble made it make the sound a little too much for gaming. They are much more suited to provide a bassy warm sound much better for music than movies or gaming.
What you will also notice is when gaming on an iPhone in my case the sound effects do land a little later than the action you see. This is not the case when you play the same game on an Andriod device like the Realme GT Neo 3T you will notice the audio and video go hand in hand and the synchronization is a lot better than when playing the same game on my iPhone 12. When you continue to play you will forget there is a little bit of a delay. The Sirius Pro also comes with video playback and it is excellent on either your iPhone or Android that you decide to use.
Using the Sirius Pro for phone calls
The Sirius Pro allows you to answer your phone and have a conversation you will notice your voice is clear and loud. Outside noises around you are reduced well but unfortunately when taking calls outside the wind can cause an issue. I also struggled to use these on an 8×8 video conference call I found the sound got too compressed and this affects the clarity of the call. However, you would not be buying these to conduct conference calls they are bought for listening to music or using them for gaming.
Verdict
The Sirius Pro continues with the Sci-Fi style that has been used on the Gravastar Venus that we have reviewed previously. If you’re a fan of sci-fi this pair of earbuds won’t disappoint. If I had to find a fault the buds are a little fiddly to get out of the case and the button to release the lid on the case has the risk of popping open if pushed in your bag.
The design offers some random features like the RGB Strip and case that doubles up as a bottle opener which I found to be useful, especially the bottle opener. The audio quality on offer did sound pretty good and if you’re a fan of bass you won’t be unhappy.
Would I improve these well the only factor I can see to improve is the battery life I would have liked to have a little more playtime from the buds having said that the increase in battery life might mean the bottle opener might have to be removed. We can live with slightly lighter battery life if it means the bottle opener stays it’s a real USP for GravaStar.
