Do you travel a lot for work and have to stay in hotels overnight, or are you just struggling to get to sleep and looking for the perfect sleep aid? In this review, we got the chance to review the Groov-e Serenity.

This little device is currently available for £19.45 and has six soothing sounds that mimic the natural environment such as forest and rain. There is also a white noise option designed to help you sleep.

First Impressions

The Groov-e Serenity will not take up much room on your bedroom table and is portable meaning you can take it on your travels.  I have been using this for just over a week now and found most sounds provided helped musk any outside noise and also helped me relax after a long day.

Set up is easy even your grandparents could use this all you need to do is make a long press of the power button and it will automatically start the forest sound as that is the default.

The Groov-e Serenity comes with six sounds to select from they are:

  • Ocean
  • Forest
  • Rain
  • Relax
  • Calm
  • White noise

You also have a timer button with three options & volume controls to complete the controls. Around the edge of the device is an LED light that you can keep on or have it pulsing or just keep it off

Design

The design of the serenity has been kept simple it is white and circular measuring 8.5cm in diameter and 3.5cm tall and has 4 plastic feet at the base to keep it in place. There are 10 buttons on the top of the unit that go around and the speaker is positioned at the front with a USB-C charging port at the rear.

The serenity comes with a 400mAh battery that has up to eight hours of playtime once fully charged. You can also keep it plugged in and it will continue to work but you may need a longer USB cable than what is provided.  Last but not least there is an LED light that runs around the outside edge of the device. The white light has the option of staying on, pulsing or just being kept off.

Features

The Groov-e Serenity uses white noise to help you sleep and comes with 6 different sounds – Forest, Ocean, Relax, Calm and White noise. When on its default setting it will continue to play until the battery runs out alternatively there is a timer button that gives you 3 options 15, 30 or 60 minutes and this is indicated by a small light under the timer button. The only annoying thing is this little light does not seem to switch off or even fade. The other feature is the LED light which has a “breathe mode” which brightens and dims in a rhythmic pattern.

Performance

The Groov-e Serenity is very easy to set up and use simply power up the device, pick the sound you want, select the timer you want the device to stay on for and go to sleep it’s as easy as that.

So as mentioned there are six sounds with rain, ocean and forest providing that natural sound. While calm, relax and white noise are all sounds you would come to expect to hear at a spa when you’re having a relaxing massage. I found the ocean the sound that helped me fall asleep with sounds like forest a little distracting when am trying to sleep. The benefit of 6 sounds like there should be something for everyone.

I found having the timer on prevented the battery from being wasted but that little LED to indicate the timer did stay on for the whole time. I placed a sleep mask on my face and that solved that issue.  What you did notice was when the timer finishes the sound stops abruptly which could wake you if you’re not in a deep sleep.

I did encounter one issue it was the volume control a light tap will not increase or decrease the volume you need to press and hold the button. This might sound simple enough but there was no visual indication you have changed the volume so it does take a bit of guesswork.

Verdict

The Groov-e Serenity is a portable white noise machine that is easy to use and provides soothing sounds whenever you need to relax. The bright timer light and volume controls can be a tad annoying. However, overall this little device is a nice option for anyone who wants to relax and the unobtrusive sounds will help you to sleep it’s especially useful when you’re staying in a hotel.

You will be pleased with just how incredibly compact the device is and the use of USB-C means you should not have any issues charging it on the go. I found the simple interface helpful it takes just seconds to learn how to use this from taking it out of the packaging.

If I had to find some negatives I would say the choice of sounds is a little limited especially when you consider how much white noise is available on platforms like Spotify. The other issue would be if you like to sleep in total darkness the LED light when on a timer is on is quite bright. I solved this issue with a sleep mask but it’s something to consider.

If you can look past the negatives I mentioned it’s a useful little device that will help you relax and get a good night’s sleep.
