The world’s first bubble-wrapped bar keeps fans and their phones safe as research reveals sporting events are high-risk environments for tech.

Football fans in Barcelona, Spain were stunned by the transformation of a popular sports bar into a bubble-wrapped paradise, offering peace of mind for those passionate fans in attendance to watch the European clash between Barcelona and Bayern Munich without fear of damaging their phones during enthusiastic celebrations.

The bar transformation came in response to new research which revealed that the merry chaos of celebrating during a football match can come at a price, with bars one of the most popular locations for fans to watch a game.

A poll of 3,000 adults conducted by HONOR, a leading global provider of smart devices, found 83% per cent of football supporters describe themselves as passionate fans, and 79% admitted to getting carried away with excitement. And when the excitement levels skyrocket, 1 in 2 confessed to throwing or dropping their belongings amid the euphoria.

These moments lead to a variety of football-related “fails”, with fans admitting they have caused regrettable damage due to spilling drinks over their phones and themselves, sustained injuries and lost belongings including sunglasses and clothing while celebrating during a football match.

Some have even caused more damage to their tech with broken phones and smashed screens common mishaps during a game, highlighting a need for more durable tech. Lucky fans who visited the bubble-wrapped Sonora Sports Bar were able to experience the future of durable devices as they were granted access to the Magic V3IP area.

Devoid of bubble wrap, the exclusive zone allowed those fortunate enough to step beyond the velvet rope a chance to experience the new HONOR Magic V3 and its supreme durability.

With a tough body featuring aerospace-grade fibres enhancing impact resistance by up to 40 times, and HONOR’s Super Steel Hinge2 forming a lightweight yet powerful spine, the HONOR Magic V3 has the durability to last the full 90 minutes and added time during even the most thrilling contests.

And it’s no wonder phones are in the firing line during sporting events, with fans revealing numerous reasons to have their device in-hand; from checking scores (55%) and updating social media (33%), to messaging friends/family (54%) and taking pictures (32%).

Of course, sometimes the emotion of a game supersedes everything else – 62% admitted they didn’t even care about any celebration-related ‘fail’ with the emotion of their team scoring dominating their feelings.

“Despite these football fails, it seems fans think it’s all worth it in the end to see their favourite team score a goal. We’re delighted to help passionate football fans enjoy the big game while keeping their phones safe, as not all phones are made equal” said Avikar Jolly, CMO of HONOR EUROPE. “The HONOR Magic V3 combines superb durability with impressive thinness and lightness, and with the foldable display you’ve got the ultimate device to replace your phone, tablet and laptop. Game on!”
