The Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) is a graphics drawing tablet at £379 on Amazon with a 13.3-inch display, designed for digital artists, designers, and other creative professionals.
With virtual artists becoming more and more popular alongside the ever-growing rise of technology in different sectors, graphics drawing tablets are increasingly in demand.
There are many different brands of tablets out there at the moment, with XP-Pen, Wacom and Huion being the major players, offering a variety of tablets tailored to certain art styles or software.
The Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) is the third step up from the Kamvas 13, which was followed by the Kamvas Pro 13 and most recently the Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K). Each edition is a step up in resolution mainly, with the 2.5K offering a 2560×1600 resolution.
Display and Design
The Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) features a Full 2.5K resolution (2560×1600) anti-glare screen with a wide colour gamut. The screen provides good colour accuracy and viewing angles, making it suitable for digital art creation.
The display fills the device right up to the edges, apart from the right side which is equipped with a bar of buttons that all have useful functions. The screen really gives off a high-quality feel, which is backed up by the sleek design of the overall device.
The colour way which I reviewed was a black colour way with grey accents, that would certainly look good in most setups, especially with those who use Apple products, as I got an Apple ‘vibe’ to the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K).
In total, the useable screen size is 286.5 x 179mm which gives users of the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) plenty of room to create. I think the more space the better is the general consensus for digital artists, as they can spend more time drawing as opposed to scrolling across a page trying to find the spot in which they want to edit. The Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) definitely delivers in terms of useable screen space.
Performance
The Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) is a very feature-filled graphics drawing tablet, with a multitude of features that make the Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) a versatile graphics tablet that can be used for many different purposes in many different sectors. For £379 on Amazon, you certainly get bang for you buck when it comes to features.
Here are the main features which work perfectly for people who will use this tablet for work purposes, such as technical drawings and more formal artwork, alongside drawing projects that are simply for the joy of drawing:
Pressure Sensitivity
The tablet supports pen pressure sensitivity levels, allowing for more precise control over brush strokes and lines. This is a crucial feature for artists who want a natural drawing experience and is sometimes an element of virtual art which artists feel they lose in comparison to tradition pencil and pad art.
The pressure sensitivity feature is something which is becoming more and more common amongst virtual art tablets, but it still is something to point out, especially on the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) as this feature is very noticeable when using the tablet.
Huion boasts a grand total of 8,192 pressure levels, which may be a little over the top for beginner artists, but for seasoned pros, that is something which is very handy.
Pen Technology
The tablet comes with a rechargeable pen that uses electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology. The pen is often reported to be responsive and accurate, providing a satisfying drawing experience that does the job.
I would say the pen is definitely a thicker pen in terms of the general pen size of the Wacom’s and XP-Pen’s of the world. This is mainly a personal preference, as some people will love having a weighty pen that they can really feel in their hands, whereas others may want a super lightweight pen that they can barely feel as they glide along the screen.
The pens thickness is also enhanced by the buttons that are less than stealthily slapped across the pens shaft. Again, this is personal preference as some people will love the convenience of having buttons that can be clicked easily, although others may see this as a distraction or an annoyance.
Shortcut Keys
Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) includes programmable shortcut keys on the side, allowing users to customize and streamline their workflow by assigning specific functions to these keys. There are 7 programmable keys in total, which is definitely enough to cover the main setting changes that most artists will use when drawing.
Compatibility
The Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) is compatible with major design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and others. It also supports both Windows and Mac operating systems, which is very convenient. This is fairly expected for a tablet costing £379 (Amazon).
This wide range of compatibility adds to the high range of features which look very impressive on paper and match up in actual usage. Although the Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) probably is still a slight tier below the very best of Wacom and XP-Pen, it certainly puts up a great challenge, which is commendable and impressive.
Value for Money
Compared to some other brands like Wacom, XP-Pen and Ugee, Huion tablets often offer good value for money, making them an attractive option for budget-conscious artists. This is usually at a loss of quality, however with the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) closes the gap whilst remaining at a fairly affordable price.
I still think the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) is a level below that of a Wacom Cintiq, however the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) comes in at £379 on Amazon, which is much cheaper than the Wacom Cintiq range. The Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5K) delivers a middle range quality for a budget friendly price, making it a very attractive option for intermediate artists or pro’s who are using a digital art tablet for the first time.
