In this review, we are focusing on the smart home brand Innr and be taking a closer look at their starter kit which includes Innr smart bulb (Colour), Innr bridge & innr remote control.
Who is Innr
Innr is a well-known brand in the smart lighting world and this brand was started in holland in 2012 by a number of ex Philips Hue and Ikea employees. They saw an opportunity to provide affordable, easy to use smart lights and other connected products.
First Impressions
The Innr smart bub gives you an app-controlled lighting solution on a budget. They are also compatible with the Philips Hue bridge allowing you to use the cheaper innr smart bulb.
In this review, we also got sent the Innr bridge in addition to the innr switch but more on them later.
The innr bulbs are controlled by Wi-Fi and the bulbs connect directly to the Innr bridge and can be controlled via the app on your phone. The main issue you might face do you have the right fixtures and light fittings for the bulbs to fit so consider that before any purchase.
Cost wise the Innr smart bulbs are available via Amazon for £46.99 for a pack of 2 colour bulbs but white bulbs are also available and these cost slightly less at £21.99 for a pack of 2 bulbs. The fittings available in the UK currently are the E27, E14, B22, GU10.
What I really like about these bulbs is that they can be customised depending on colour and also brightness so you can change the warmth of the bulb. You can also set up daily automation as well and when they switch on during the day.
You can also integrate them into your smart home infrastructure as the bulbs will work with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant and now they are part of the Zigbee bulb range they will also work with Philips Hue as mentioned at the start of this review.
Design
The Innr Wi-Fi Bulbs allow the user to make controlling your lighting at home simple and they also help save on the electric bill which is very important with the crazy energy prices currently. They use 80% less energy compared to an average light bulb.
The bulbs produce 806 lumens which is the equivalent of 60W and they only consume 9W at full brightness. The brightness is not the best on the market but the 806 lumens is decent compared to other smart bulbs on the market. The colour bulbs range from 1800K to 6500K temperature and have up to 16 million colour options.
The innr Wi-Fi bulbs are rounded bulbs with a white base with the innr logo and QR code on the bulb that needs to be scanned to link to the bridge and the app. The bulb fittings are suitable for most home lights or lamps and are available in E27, B22 & A19 options so don’t be concerned that you can’t find a bulb with the right fitting.
In this review, we got sent 2x E27 bulbs with the colour version. In terms of setting up the bulbs, you will need to download the innr app and connect the innr bridge which acts as a focal point to connect all the innr smart home gadgets to the app.
Once the app and the bridge have been downloaded and connected set up retrospectively just scan the QR code on the bulb and it will pair on the app. The app is available for both android and IOS so no issues about the kind of phone you are using.
Setting up the bulb is a simple process using the app and will take just shy of 5 minutes to set up. Once set up on the app you can mark which room the bulb has been set up in. Once assigned you can have full control of the bulb.
The app allows you to adjust the brightness and also adjust the colour of the light providing you with an extensive colour wheel to select from. The app also has 5 preset lighting modes that include:
- Work
- Read
- Family time
- Relax
- Night light
The presets are handy as they give you the right colour and brightness without having to adjust anything. You also create your own routines as well which is a nice addition.
On top of routines, you can also set up automation which is timers for when the lights come on/off. For example first thing in the morning, after dinner or when you heading to bed.
You can also use the holiday mode that allows you to set timers for when the lights go on or off and also allows you to randomise the time which will adjust the start and stop times. You have options from 15 to 60 minutes adjustments. This is useful to deter potential burglars while you’re living your best life.
Wi-Fi Bulb Performance
When using the Innr Wi-Fi bulbs over the last few weeks they really did light up the rooms I had them set up in. I found the light to be quite warm regardless of the colour we set and was useful to adjust the brightness. The presets were also a nice touch to match your mood at that time of day.
Innr Bridge
In addition to the Wi-Fi bulbs and the innr smart remote control both require one thing and that is the Innr Bridge as the bulbs and the remote control can not be connected directly to your phone.
The innr Bridge actually allows for compatibility with other smart bulbs from the likes Philips Hue and Zigbee smart bulbs making this a much more investable device. The device is really simple to use it comes with a USB-C charge cable and adaptor.
Once powered up connecting it to the app is simple. Once you see a single flash every second it’s ready to connect to the innr app and acts as a hub that holds all the devices in one place.
The Innr bridge allows you to connect up to 30 lights to the app which should be more than enough for the average home. The Innr Bridge actually works with the app to allow you to connect the lighting with your current smart home assistant either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
What I really like about this device is as the innr bridge creates a Zigbee-enabled mesh network that even if the internet connection fails the lights will still work. Ideal if you are away on holiday.
Cost-wise it’s £29 and when it comes to the innr smart lighting system it’s actually a vital piece to the jigsaw.
The Innr Smart remote control
This smart remote control can be programmed to control single or groups of innr lights and offers an array of buttons for scene switching and dimming.
The remote control offers five buttons and can be programmed to do to your smart lights based on a single, double or a long hold. The smart remote control is a handy device that lets you choose which lamps you want to control either all lights in that room or a select group.
The buttons allow you to switch lights on/off, dim or brighten or show your favourite colour. The Innr smart remote control can be customised via the innr app. Cost-wise it comes in at £23 it’s also an affordable addition to your smart home set up.
Verdict
The Innr Wi-Fi colour bulbs are so easy to use. The app was very intuitive and simple to use. Everything is done with ease and the app allows you to set the lighting in each room and allows you to set routines and automation with ease. You need to use the Innr bridge as it creates the bridge between your bulbs and your phone via that Wifi signal or mobile data when not in the house.
The Innr Bridge is one of these devices that is vital for the infrastructure of the innr smart lighting set up. It’s rather inexpensive and once set up you won’t have to do much, in fact, you forget it’s even in the house after a while.
The Innr Smart remote control allows you to create some shortcuts to adjust the brightness and select your favourite colour. Unlike the innr bridge, you can run the lights without the switch as that can be done via your phone or smart assistant.
Overall, If your looking for full smart lighting set up this package from Innr offers excellent value for money as well as easy to use and lighting that will light up a room and also save you money.
