First Impressions

I was very impressed when I unboxed them they come in a nice grey fabric bag with the JBL Logo printed on the front and this bag is useful when not in use. The unboxing also comes with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable and one detachable audio cable.

The JBL Tune 670NC folds and bends in a few different ways so they can be placed in your bag without taking up much space. They are lightweight at only 174g and after long periods do not cause any discomfort like others on the market might.  The JBL Tune 670NC costs £79.99 and is available in four colours: Black, White, Blue and purple.

When testing these out we score them high on comfort and ease of use but it’s the ANC & sound quality that needs a little work. However, the star of the show is the battery life coming in at a massive 70 hours.

Let’s take a deeper look.

Design

The JBL Tune 670NC will provide you with no surprises when it comes to build especially being in the under £100 mark. They have a plastic build with a fabric cover on the headband and foam ear cups that will get warm if you wear them for long periods so using these in the gym might want to be avoided. However, if like me you just used these to travel to work then you will enjoy the level of comfort.

The Headband is adjustable too without any awkward clunk.

Moving to the controls they are all positioned on the right cup with the left cup being where the USB-C port is positioned next to a small LED that indicates the battery life.

The right cup where the JBL logo has a shortcut for play/pause, track control call answering and smart assistant. I found the play/pause and smart assistant to work well but struggled to change the track.  Around the cup is a power switch and then three buttons that also control the track control, volume, play/pause and call controls.

Features

Considering the cost I was surprised that JBL has included multipoint support so I can connect to both my phone and laptop at once. It’s a feature that I have seen to be missing in more expensive models. Unfortunately, there is no wear detection but if you dont mind pressing the shortcut pause on the side of the cup it’s not a deal breaker.

A feature I was pleased to see is the inclusion of the JBL Headphone app this is simple to use and allows you to select pre-set EQ modes or allowing to to make a small adjustment. The app also allows you to select the voice assistant you want from either Google, Alexa or your phone’s smart assistant such as Siri.

The more simple features include the ability to connect them to a wired offering using the provided 3.5mm cable.  Want to keep them wireless then the Bluetooth 5.3 support means you are less likely to suffer any dropouts.

Battery Life

The star of the show has to be the battery life and this is what will attract the student market. The JBL Tune 670NC offers excellent battery life with 70 hours with ANC off or ANC on you still get 44 hours.

If you need a quick charge there is a feature for that as well with a five-minute charge giving you 3 hours which should get you out of trouble.

Sound Quality

The JBL Tune 670NC did require a little adjustment in the app as simply out of the box they are a little weak. You need to adjust the EQ and will find you sticking with vocal most of the time.

Unfortunately, switch to bass and all the energy seems to have left the headphones they just lack any kind of punch. Moving to the ANC it’s ok but as expected does let in some environmental sounds such as traffic down a busy road. You could increase the volume to solve this issue.

Verdict

The JBL Tune 670NC needs a little improvement in areas but when you consider the price you have to say they reflect their price well.  As long as you keep your expectations low you won’t be disappointed. Dont get me wrong there are better models on the market if you want to spend more but at this price point.

The main benefits here are they are lightweight and come with a massive battery life if you can live with an average audio quality and bass and ANC is not at the top of your list you will enjoy these.
