Recently I was just searching Instagram looking for what new tech was available and come across a company called Kwearables. Who created the K ring for these tech geeks out there you might know it by its previous name the Kerv Ring.
What is the K Ring?
The best way to describe the K Ring it’s a pre-paid Mastercard built into the ring allowing for making contactless payments anywhere in the world. It’s also a bit of a showstopper as the face of the lady behind the till in my local supermarket was a picture.
The ring is made from an inert resin band that has a zirconia ceramic outer covering. The ring comes in a number of designs:
- K Ring White
- K Ring Black
Within each ring you can pick the interior colour which is a nice touch but if you’re wearing the ring who will see it? Before you buy this ring make sure you know what size you need I would recommend you head to your local jeweller and get your finger sized or you can buy a ring sizer from the site for £2. You will notice on the website most ring sizes are available. If you did buy the wrong size by mistake the lovely lot at Kwearables offer a replacement service.
When the ring arrives there no obvious signs this is a contactless ring if you wear a number of rings others won’t notice the difference. The K Ring does have a K logo printed on it but with the black version of the ring, you will bearly notice it on the ring.
How do you use the K Ring?
You first need to sign up via the following website: myKring.com/signup then you need to follow the steps to activate the ring. You may get a referral from Mastercard as I did but that just an added security feature and you get approval after a couple of days. Once approved you need to add a bank account so you can transfer funds to the ring. You also need to pair the ring to your account and you get an activation code on the back of the manual to do so. After that, you’re ready to use the ring.
When testing out this ring it did work well most of the time but on a trip to a McDonalds, the ring did not work when on my finger so I had to take it off and place the ring on the contactless payment unit but it only happened the once. Any other time I used it the ring worked perfectly and still makes people look twice.
When using the ring simply clench your fist and place it on top of the card reader and wait for the beep to indicate the payment has been successful. This ring is great for popping to the local shop and if you have left your wallet at home no issues as you can just pay with the ring.
Unfortunately, you do not have a dedicated app but you can create a shortcut like I did on my iPhone to the K Ring website and use face recognition to quickly log in to my account to top up.
You can use this ring to make transactions just like any other debit or credit card and can set up top-ups by automatic transfer but you can also just manually top it up. The K Ring just like a debit card used contactless has a £45 limit or £100 overseas. If you have the ring connected for automatic transfer you can make up to 50 transactions in one day.
You can use this ring to make transactions in-store or when we are allowed back to the office and you can use the like an oyster card. When you are low on funds you can set up text notifications which inform you of a low balance.
Would I Buy this Ring?
I would buy this ring for sure at £99 its an investment if you want to pay for things quicker and for going on holiday and you want to buy that beer by the pool but not have to carry your wallet. The K Ring is an excellent option that still makes me smile when people look at you paying with just a ring so it does start a conversation.
