In the second of three products we are reviewing after Majority Tru 1, we are now turning our attention to the Majority Tru 2 ANC which currently costs £49.95 and comes in one colour black.
First Impressions
The Majority Tru 2 ANC have changed up the shape of the charging case compared to the Tru 1 model and the steam on the bud is also thinner other changes include a slight downgrade in the Bluetooth department from 5.3 in the Tru 1 to 5.2 in the Tru 2.
The Major addition to these earbuds is the ANC technology which when activated does a good job of reducing unwanted noise more on that later. I found that the buds are nice and lightweight (4.5 grams) and with some subtle branding on both the buds and the charging case. The charging case is pebble-shaped making it easy to place in your jean pocket when on the move.
Unboxing
Just like the Majority Tru 1 these earbuds also keep things quite simple when it comes to the packaging and what is included. The packaging has a picture of the buds on the front with the key features that include:
- ANC
- 30 hrs of Playback
- Fast Charging
- Powerful Stereo sound
- Crystal Clear Calls
- Bluetooth 5.2
- IPX Waterproof
Inside the packaging Majority Audio keeps things simple with the following:
1x Set of Tru ANC Wireless Earbuds
3 x sets of ear tips (Small & Large with an additional medium size already fitted)
1x USB-C charge cable
1x Charging case
Design
The Tru 2 has reduced the size of the stem of the buds but apart from that are very similar to the Tru 1 with the indicator light at the top of the buds with the touch key just below and the built-in mic at the bottom of the steam that allows you to make calls and bring up the voice assistant when needed.
The buds still use that satin matt finish with the body of the bud still uses the gloss finish. We found the buds are nice and comfortable in the ear for long periods of use.
As mentioned the buds have that small LED at the top of the buds when charging the white light stays on until they are fully charged. When it’s time to charge them you will notice the little white LED will flash twice every 20 seconds.
Moving to the charging case has a matt finish which seems to do a good job of preventing fingerprints and has that branding on the top of the case and the USB-C port to the rear of the case. Moving to the front of the case has that LED indicator that reminds me of the 80’s classic Night Rider Car Kit.
The LED light actually has some meaning when charging the white light will flash and when charging is complete the light just stays on. However, when it’s time to charge for example when battery life is nearing 10% the white light is on for 4 seconds and when the power is under 10% the white light will flash for 1 second and then goes out after 4 seconds.
Open the pebble-shaped case and there is an indication of where each bud will go. There are also magnet contacts in the case and also on the back of the buds to keep them in place.
The Battery life just like the Tru 1 comes with 30 hours of playtime with 6 hours from a single charge. The charging case offers the user three additional full charges and also comes with fast charging feature which with just 30 min of charge will give you 2 hours of playtime. A full hour of charge gives you a full battery.
Connectivity
The Tru 2 ANC use Bluetooth 5.2 and comes with a range of 10 meters now in testing we found even at a busy train station the connectivity was solid which is a bonus compared to many others that have failed this simple test. Now if it’s your first time with a pair of buds like this connecting them to your device is quite an easy process:
-
- Open the charging case
- The earbuds will automatically start to pair and the white light will flash once every 0.5 seconds until paired.
- Go into your device’s Bluetooth settings and select Majority Tru 2
- You are paired and ready to go.
Touch Controls
The Majority Tru 2 ANC comes with the same touch control setup as the Tru 1 model. They provide the user with the following controls:
- Play/Pause
- Track Control
- Call Management – Answer/Reject/ end the call
- Smart assistant
- ANC on/off
What you will notice is with the inclusion of ANC the volume controls have been removed which is a tad annoying as I will have to control the volume by my phone but understandable considering there needed a be an ANC switch. Plus the fact Majority does not have an app yet you are unable to control the ANC or adjust the EQ via the app.
Below is a full chart of the controls and how to use them:
Play/Pause | Tap either bud once |
Previous Song | Double tap the left bud |
Next Song | Double tap the right bud |
Answer a call | Tap once on either earbud |
End a Call | Double-tap either earbud |
Reject a Call | Double-tap either earbud |
Turn on Voice Assistant | Triple Press on either bud |
ANC ON / Ambient Mode / ANC OFF | Long press for 2 seconds to switch to each mode |
Audio Quality
Am currently sitting on my regular train listing to some rock music and considering they sit in that under £100 bracket (£49) the audio quality sounds pretty much the same as in the Tru 1 model. The way audio playback offers plenty of detail, especially in the mids and highs. Am currently listening to the classic “ Are you going to be my girl by Jet” I found the detail in this track very pleasing it offers a nice punchy bass paired with crystal clear vocals that will please the majority of listeners even the tambourine can be heard clearly.
When listening to these buds using a variety of genres of music the vibe was the same lovely clear audio with a fairly respectful bass. I have also tested these for making calls and found they picked up my voice very well and the person I was speaking could be heard very clearly.
Active Noise Cancelling
Majority Audio pushes the fact the hybrid ANC can suppress up to 90% of unwanted ambient sound now in testing they do enhance the overall soundstage however, in terms of unwanted ambient sound they do an ok job. I have tested these at Liverpool Street station and more importantly on my trip home from the office. I would say the ANC is about 50% effective. It did reduce the unwanted outside noise but I could still hear conversations nearby and the sound of the train moving could still be heard not as loud as if ANC is switched off but still noticeable.
The Ambient mode when switched on personally I could not tell any difference between ANC being switched on and then switched to the ambient mode being activated. Overall in regards to ANC, it’s not a bad first effort but room for improvement to take Majority Audio up the ANC charts.
Verdict
The Majority Tru 2 ANC are a decent-sounding pair of true wireless earbuds with a nice design and decent sound quality. The battery life at 30 hours in total is also respectable and for the cost of £49, you can’t really complain you are getting a good deal. However, my issue here is the sound stage is almost identical to that of the cheaper Tru 1 model and the fact the ANC you have here is the difference maker but is the average ANC worth the extra £20 investment? If you can live without ANC I would recommend the Tru 1 model as apart from subtle differences they are basically the same.
How could they improve? Well, they could improve the ANC and make a bit more of a difference compared to the Tru 1 model. Also, the introduction of an app for adjusting the EQ and updating any firmware would have been a nice addition.
