In the third review in this Majority Audio special in which we have reviewed both the Tru 1 & Tru 2 ANC models now is the turn of the Tru Sport model which currently costs £34.95 and is available in just the black colour option.
The Tru Sport model uses a secure active fit earhook making this ideal for most forms of exercise from going running to hitting the gym hard they are perfect due to the IPX7 rating.
First Impressions
The first thing you will notice is the style of these earbuds are very different compared to the Tru 1 & Tru 2 ANC. They are designed with fitness at the forefront of the design; the ear hooks and overall design of the headphone really do stand out.
The key features of these affordable headphones are as follows:
- Bluetooth 5.2
- 30-hour battery
- Fast charging
- Powerful stereo sound
- Touch control
- Secure Active fit
- IPX7 rating
You will notice apart from the design the majority of features of the Tru Sport are exactly the same as Tru 1 & Tru 2 ANC. You will also notice even the packaging is exactly the same and this is done to keep a level of consistency throughout the range.
Unboxing
As mentioned the packaging is standard across the Tru range with an image of the headphones on the packaging along with the key features. Inside the packaging you are provided with the following:
1x set of Tru Sport Wireless Earbuds
3x sets of ear tips (small & Large with medium already fitted on the buds)
1x USB-C cable
1x Charging Case
1x User guide
Design
The Majority Audio Tru Sport comes with that earhook design that fits around the top of your ear with the bud fitting nicely in the ear. The hooks keep the buds in place without the risk they might fall out.
Above the ear hook, you have that LED light, a Multi-function button and just below that the built-in mic for taking calls and also allowing you to command your phone smart assistant. Inside the buds are 13mm drivers that offer that quality audio sound you come to expect with Majority Audio.
The charging case is still pebble shaped but much larger than the Tru1 or Tru 2 ANC models. The case is made of durable plastic and has a little bit of branding on the top of the case and also on the buds themselves.
Just like the Tru 1 & Tru 2 ANC models, the case has clear and visible space for both buds you will notice the left bud actually goes into the right position of the case and the right bud into the left side of the case.
You will also notice the case has a satin finish to prevent fingerprints from being on show. The case also comes with a small LED light at the front and the USB- C port at the back of the case. My only negative about the case is that they have reverted back to the single LED light that you see in the Tru 1 model. I would have preferred you kept the knight rider style LED strip that is on the Tru 2 ANC model. It’s not like you’re struggling for space on this charging case.
The LED indicator on the charging case will either have a red or green light. The red light will flash slowly to indicate the case is charging and will turn off when fully charged. The Green light will remain when you’re charging the buds in the case. When the charging case is running low the green light will flash indicating its time to charge.
In regards to battery life, you are provided 30 hours in total with a single charge in the buds providing 6 hours of playback. The Tru Sport model also offers a fast charging feature 30mins of charge will provide 2 hours of playback. When it’s time to fully charge, it will take 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Moving to Bluetooth pairing the Majority Tru Sport uses Bluetooth 5.2 and when it’s your first time using these as long as the battery level is full the buds will automatically start pairing once removed you will see the small LEDs on the buds flash red/white. Then go into your phone’s Bluetooth settings and select Majority Tru Sport and then you will hear voice feedback informing you they are connected.
In testing, we found they are easy to connect as once paired every time you use these headphones they will automatically pair. The range is 10 meters and they provided no audio dropouts throughout testing. Last but not least the headphones are IPX7 rated meaning the product is waterproof and ideal if caught in the rain when running or burning up a sweat at the gym.
Touch Controls
The Majority Tru Sport just like the rest of the Tru range use touch controls located above the small LED on the body of each bud. In testing, I have found these to be very responsive. The fact Tru Sport does not have the ANC features that the Tru 2 ANC has means they can include volume controls.
Below is a full chart of the controls and how to use them:
Play/Pause | Tap the MFB on L/R once |
Previous Song | Double tap on the MFB on the Left bud |
Next Song | Double tap on the MFB on the Right bud |
Volume Increase | Triple-tap the MFB on Right bud to increase the volume. |
Volume Decrease | Triple-tap the MFB on Left to decrease the volume. |
Answer/ End a call | Tap the MFB on either bud |
Reject a Call | Press and hold the MFB on either bud for 2 seconds when calling. |
Turn on Voice Assistant | Press and hold the MFB on L/R for 2 seconds. |
Audio Quality
The Tru Sport model comes with a 13mm driver and just like the rest of the range they provide the listener with a good level of bass and plenty of detail in the midrange. When listening to something like Freya Ridings, I found the vocals to be clear and immersive. For a pair of budget-friendly headphones, it’s hard to find fault.
The earbuds also allow you to receive calls and when we tested these they picked up my voice very clearly I could also hear the person I was speaking to crystal clear which means you could even use these if you had a conference call for work.
Verdict
The Majority Tru Sports earbuds offer a budget-friendly option for someone who wants to listen to music while keeping fit these a great option. The ear hook design keeps these earbuds firmly in your ears regardless of the exercise you are doing.
You will be pleased with the battery life and the fast charging feature. The buds also come with an IPX7 rating and provide you Bluetooth 5.2 which is the current standard. The 13mm drivers provide you with quality sound and allow for good-quality calls that were uninterrupted calls with clarity due to the built-in microphones.
If your looking for a budget-friendly pair of earbuds suitable for hitting the gym then you will be more than happy with the Majority Tru Sports
