The Maono PD200X microphone is a budget-friendly microphone, coming in at £89.99 from Amazon. The PD200X boasts a sleek design and promises professional-level audio quality, making it an attractive option for content creators and aspiring musicians. It comes out of the box with a USB-C lead, along with a built-in frame that allows users to connect the microphone to a stand.
Build Quality:
The first thing that caught my eye was the microphone’s robust build quality. The PD200X feels sturdy and well-constructed, ensuring durability for long-term use. The materials used are predominantly metal, although the frame is plastic, which seems to be a tad contradictory as you would expect a frame to be one of the sturdiest parts the microphone.
The black colourway has a smart-looking matte finish that certainly adds a touch of sophistication and the included rubber shock mount provides extra protection against vibrations and handling noise whilst also not standing out too much, making it overall a very neat design.
There are LED RGB elements to the PD200X, with a ring of RGB’s at the bottom of the boom, and another ring around the knob. This RGB lights red when muted and green when unmuted, with is a handy feature for when you’ve accidentally clicked the mute button. There is also a button on the underside of the microphones bas that allows you to change the larger RGB, with 9 different colour options ranging from blue to yellow to even a rainbow colourway.
Audio Performance:
The most crucial aspect of any microphone is its audio performance and the Maono PD200X delivers admirably in this department. The cardioid polar pattern effectively captures sound from the front while minimizing background noise. Whether recording podcasts, voiceovers, or musical performances, the PD200X consistently produces clear and crisp audio, which is a big testament to Maono.
The pop filter with the rubber supports works well, with no little rattles, movement noises or outside unwanted sounds being produced. The mic sits extremely comfortably, so your audio quality will most likely always be of a high quality with the PD200X.
The only real flaw to the sound quality was a slight fuzziness to the sound when recording, however that wasn’t that noticeable on things like calls and streams. This may be down to the USB port which I was using, however it appeared even when using different devices, so I must assume it is the microphone creating that noise. Like I said, this isn’t major as it doesn’t hinder the overall quality enough to bump down my review, but it is something to point out.
Despite that, for £89.99, you really get a microphone that delivers an audio quality worthy of a large price tag.
Maono Link App:
The Maono microphone family are not all compatible to co-operate with their free app, however the PD200X is one of the microphones which works with app. This doesn’t mean that people have to get the app for this microphone to function, but it can be helpful in its way. With the app, you have access to adjust to your liking a limiter, compressor, volume control, EQ modes, RGB light customization and one-button mute.
All these options are customizable on the actual body of the microphone, so the app is really just a remote control rather than something which can boost your experience massively. That being said, the app was very easy to use and it did feel cool adjusting the mics setting without having to actually touch the mic at all, so I would definitely recommend getting the app.
The app can be downloaded on iOS, Windows, Mac, Google Play and Android devices, which makes it pretty much available to any device.
Connectivity:
The PD200X offers versatile connectivity options, with a USB-C interface providing a plug-and-play experience for hassle-free setup. This feature makes it an excellent choice for those who are new to recording or don’t want to invest in additional audio interfaces.
There is also a XLR connectivity port, which adds to the premium feel that this microphone exudes. The XLR port allows you to use the PD200X on the more advanced sound systems out there, such as DJ equipment, mixers and various other ‘advanced’ audio interfaces.
Additional Features:
One standout feature of the Maono PD200X is its built-in headphone jack for real-time monitoring. This allows users to listen to their audio as they record, ensuring a more precise and professional result. The microphone also comes with a pop filter, further reducing plosive sounds for a cleaner recording.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the Maono PD200X microphone offers an impressive combination of build quality, audio performance and user-friendly features at an affordable price point of £89.99 on Amazon, which in the grand scheme of things is a decent price for a high-quality microphone. Whether you’re a budding content creator or a musician on a budget, the PD200X is certainly worth considering.
