If you asked 100 Apple users at random what is the one issue they all share when asked I bet battery life would be in the top 2 answers. This is why many brands such as Juice, Xtorm, Belkin & Mophie have brought out powerbanks and wireless charging devices. You may also be an Apple user who has an Apple Watch and also a pair of Airpods and hate having cables all over the house or you are annoyed that you can only wirelessly charge one device at a time.
In this review, we have been sent the Moxmax Airbox which they claim will allow you to charge all your Apple products at once. The Moxmax Airbox currently costs £98 from Amazon in white but they also do a black version that is slightly more expensive at £109.
Who is Momax?
Momax is a brand that has come out of Hong Kong and the name came from the words Mobile & Max = Momax. They are a brand that aims to innovate with the products they launch.
They have sold over 100 million Pieces in over 50 markets. They have products within the mobile accessories industry to IoT products.
Design
The Momax Airbox is a powerbank/wireless charging hybrid that is completely unique to anything else on the market. As it provides 4 wireless charging options as well as a wired charging option as well.
The airbox is not really any larger than the 10,000mAh powerbank I keep in my work bag for emergencies. What makes this device unique it has an open-up mechanism that shows you all the Apple devices you can charge.
Now along with the Airbox, you get a charging cable that is 7 inches long. If you were to weigh the Airbox it only comes at just under 1 pound in weight so it’s super lightweight adding to the fact it’s portable. As you can use it solely as a powerbank if you have a USB-C to lightning cable. Now if you want to take advantage of the wireless charging that is when it becomes less portable and you will need to take a seat.
How to use it?
The Airbox powerbank is very simple to use on the outside of the airbox you will see 4 LED Power indicators which when white they show you the power remaining in the powerbank. When you see a green LED this indicates fast charging from that USB-C port. When you see two Orange lights this indicates wireless charging is happening. Now to provide a little bit of complication when the Orange LED is one this indicates you are charging your iPhone. The Orange LED to the right is for when you’re charging other devices such as your Apple watch.
The overall design has been well thought about the hinge when you open the airbox shows no sign it will just break after a few goes in fact it’s very sturdy. It also has spaces shaped to what you’re going to charge so you know instantly what to charge where.
Reliability
This powerbank is designed for the Apple user however as long as your device is Qi compatible it could be used. Solving that issue when the person who sits next to you at work always seems to have only 10% battery.
Now in terms of battery/power capacity, the airbox comes with a 10,00mAh battery you should get 2 full charges when using an iPhone 12 for example. Also considering you can also charge your watch or earbuds you should get a few more charges if it’s just the wearables in need of a charge.
Charging Options
The Airbox on the box mentions it’s a 5 in 1 power and it’s very true. First up is that USB-C port that will deliver 20W of power and this is mainly for charging your phone.
In terms of wireless charging, you need to open the powerbank and then you will find compartments for each of your Apple products such as:
- Apple iPhone
- Apple Watch
- Apple Airpods or wireless charging compatible earbuds.
- Apple Pencil
When charging your phone via wireless charging you will get a 10W charge rate which will offer that fast charging. The charging rate for the other products such as your Apple Watch is 5W which is the best rate available.
Below is the key charging stats:
USB-C Power Delivery Port | 5V/3.0 | 9V/2.22A |
Wireless Smartphone Charging | 10W |
Wireless Apple Watch Charging | 5W |
Wireless Earbud Case Charging | 5W |
USB-C Input | 5V/3.0A | 9V/2.0A |
Wireless Input | 10W |
Charging The Airbox?
When you need to recharge the Airbox you simply need to use the USB-C port and run a charging cable into the mains and this will recharge the quickest. There is another way you can simply recharge this on another wireless charger but this is unlikely to be the case unless you like me who has a room for charging products.
Verdict
The Momax Powerbank is larger than some other powerbanks on the market but that is not a bad thing and you can open this one up to place your device down in the compartment and press start. I found the LED’s useful as they told me what was happening and the device was actually charging.
Power-wise you should have enough juice in the tank to give your iPhone 12 two full charges and if you’re just charging your wearables you will get a few more charges obviously.
The Momax Airbox has been designed for that person who has multiple devices but all Apple and using the Airbox has removed the need for multiple charge cables and made my whole charging experience much more convenient. It’s a great Christmas gift idea for someone who loves Apple and wants everything charged with speed.
