If you’re like me when you buy a new device you want to keep that pristine condition for as long as possible. However, when you take it out on a walk or maybe your just watching a film on a train having a case to allow me to keep it safe is important.
This year Apple released the new a brand new range of iPad’s including the Apple iPad Air and new iPad costing from £329. Time for a new case?
That is where accessory brand Gecko comes in; they have released a number of protective cases and we at What Gadget were lucky to get their Rugged designed case.
The Gecko rugged cover comes with the following features:
- Military Grade Protection
- Stand function
- Wake up/sleep function
- 360° protection.
The Gecko Rugged case offers that extra level of safety without looking ugly. This case offers a mix of style and protection. On the protection side, this case comes with Military Grade protection MIL-STD 810 H. Unfortunately my understanding of military grading is not very good but I have been told it’s well worth having. The Military protection is also paired with shock protection so if you were to drop your iPad I would have no concerns of damage.
Design-wise you have a leather material front cover that also comes with a wake-up/sleep function for your iPad allowing your iPad to be ready from a moment’s notice. The cover also folds to create a stand which is ideal when you want to watch a film.
You have the ability to turn the cover into a stand.
On the inside of the case, you will see rubberised buttons offering that extra level of protection and when the iPad was in the case the buttons were all very responsive. This case also has all the right cut out areas for things like the camera and sensors and this is finished off with a clear plastic centre which is there just to really show everyone you have an iPad I can really see any other reason for it apart from adding a little style to the overall design.

When considering the protection element which is the focus of this case it also offers dual-layer cushions on each corner to keep it safe when dropped.
My only issue with this case is the fact there is no magnet or clip to keep the cover from accidentally opening if it was in your bag when you were commuting. I have always been a fan of that extra protection in the shape of a magnetic strip or even a clip as it stops any unnecessary damage. The fact the Gecko Rugged cover does not have this would put people off buying it.
If you can look past the fact the cover might open accidentally or you’re just someone who carries your case around (You know who you are!). This case would be for your with that military-grade protection, shock resistant and 360°protection this case will keep your iPad perfectly safe. I also like the wake up /sleep function but let’s face it this function is hardly unique. This case also does not allow you a 360° twist which also might turn a few people to look for an alternative.
The Gecko Rugged case looks great and will offer you protection but with the lack of magnet or clip to keep that case cover from accidentally opening it may prevent some people buying this case.
