Overall Rating: 4.8 out of 5.0 stars
2020 has been a year I think we can all agree we will not forget in a long time due to the COVID-19 Outbreak. It has brought some families together but I am sure if you are reading this review. You will have a loved one or friend who you have not been able to see who maybe shielding currently.
Nixplay recently sent us a digital photo frame with a difference, something that you can share them special memories even if you can not see that person due to this horrible virus. Nixplay is a brand well known in the US with over 2 million frames and they are looking to connect people in the UK as well.
The Nixplay N is a Wi-Fi enabled digital picture frame with a difference it allows you to send pictures or videos to any Nixplay frame as long as they are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. This technology is very cool especially considering lots of us can not see friends and family like we used to.
The Frame comes in the 4 different sizes: 9.7 inches, 10.1 inches, 13.3 inches and 15.6 inches with costs starting at £169.99 to £269.99. In this review, I was given the 9.7-inch frame which black or Silver. Inside the box you get the frame, Power adapter with UK & EU plug points, 1x remote control and some screws and instructions if you want to mount it to your wall.
This photo frame comes with 2k Ultra High picture quality and integrated motion sensor. Setting up the frame was very easy. It comes with a flexible stand that allows you to use the frame in landscape or Portrait. The stand also doubles as your power cord as it has a cable port for you to connect the power cable.
Once set up you need to create a Nixplay account in order for you connect the frame to a Wi-Fi network and most importantly pair your device to the account so you can share images and videos.
When you first install the app you will notice the frame needs some updates and will do this automatically but it does take a few minutes so go make a cup of tea and come back.
Once the updates are done and you have set up the app you get offered touse the standard package which gives you 10GB of storage for free. That is a lot of pictures or videos sent to your frame. The standard package lets you connect to 5 different frames from your account.
If you need more you can always upgrade to the Nixplay Plus options this gives you 30GB of storage, Private Grouped Playlists, 1min videos clips and will connect to up to 10 frames meaning the whole family could have one. Extra costs of Nixplay Plus are either £4.99 for 1month or £49.99 for 12 months.
Adding pictures to your frame is also very easy to do and you can add or remove images with ease. The only negative I found is when you try to scroll in your camera roll to select pictures you do get a couple of second delay. It’s not a deal-breaker, just a little annoying.
Once uploaded on your frame it will tell you when your new pictures have arrived and are ready to use. I found the whole uploading of pictures and videos very easy to do and the bonus is if my grandmother had a frame she would not need to do anything as I can do everything on my account.
Yes, they have to set up an account and send me a friend request to my admin account once done they can also see pictures just like you. You can also connect your social media to the frame so you can share them Instagram shots you have but you can also connect it to Facebook photo albums if you want. If creating an account is not something a friend or family wanted to do you can simply email the photos to the frame.
This frame is just fantastic! You can adjust the photo display such as the time each picture is displayed, the pattern in which the pictures play and many other filters to the pictures. All the controls can be done via the little remote control provided with the frame that you can also stick the remote to the back of the frame as it’s also magnetic. If you want to take the tech to the next level this fame can be controlled by Amazon Alexa.
You can also set up a schedule to put the frame to sleep as you do not want a bright light at night time. The frame also comes with a motion sensor the use of the sleep schedule and motion detention features allows for the frame to shut off either when the sleep schedule kicks in or when the motion sensor isn’t triggered it pauses the picture run so you don’t end up seeing the same pictures over and over. It’s such an important feature I feel.
When using this frame I did find a few issues. Uploading photos have to be done individually and then you create the albums via the Nixplay App. You can’t seem to download a full album in one hit which is a little annoying. There is a way to do this via your computer to your account. However, with most of us having pictures on our phone it seems a bit of a long-winded way of uploading an album.
The format of pictures also needs to be in JPEG or PNG format for these pictures that you apply filters to and they end up as a different format known as .HEIC files. Uploading these can be a little more problematic but not impossible. Also, make sure your pictures are taken in either portrait or landscape as it will adjust the image to make them fit on the screen and bring the canvas to life.
What I love about this frame is the fact you can connect families by sharing memories. The image quality is amazing thanks to the 2K ultra high-quality images. The NixPlay n also provides that sleep schedule and motion detection and the ability to use Amazon Alexa.
This picture frame is truly unique and at £269.99 in my view, it’s worth every penny as in a world of social distancing this frame brings friends and family together.
