First Impressions
My first thoughts when opening the box and brandishing the sleek black headphones were mainly focused on the size of the headphones. They have a lightweight frame that is thinner than say a pair of Beats, however that does not mean they sacrifice rigidity or strength – these headphones don’t appear to break easily with strong plastic and aluminium metal construction and a good amount of flexibility.
One neat aspect that I liked was the little leather bag that was included. The leather designer-like bag gave the earphones a very premium feel, along with leather being a tough material that will no doubt be protection for when you are carrying your SuperEQ S1 headphones around.
Appearance
RATING – 4.8/5
These headphones are definitely one of the more stylish options on the market, with the stealthy and classy black being combined with red and aluminium accents creating a very stylish look. Additionally, the earphones are not draped in excessive bits and bobs, giving them a streamlined and refined feel.
The simple ‘Super EQ’ logo in white on the slightly oversized earmuffs looks great in my opinion, it doesn’t look tacky or obnoxious, it just simply looks smart and does not ‘overdo’ it which I like. Overall, these headphones are very stylish, whilst also being lowkey and not too loud. This is good as you can imagine anyone from a super famous basketballer to a punk rocker in his garage wearing these.
Durability and Portability
RATING – 4.6/5
The strong and tough plastic combined with the aluminium aspects of the headphones suggests that these headphones are pretty durable. When bending them slightly or pulling them wide to place on my head, I didn’t feel like they would accidentally snap or break, although I have seen stiffer headphones.
If you’re worried about wearing these in the rain, don’t be as they’re rated IPX5 on the waterproofing scale, meaning that they can withstand moisture from low-pressure sources but cannot be exposed to high pressure water or full submersion. So, if you’re wearing these and it starts to drizzle, you won’t have to sprint to the nearest tree for shelter.
The fact that the earmuffs can fold inwards is also a big plus, with this feature allowing you to half the size of your headphones instantly, making them the perfect size to quickly slip into a backpack. Along with that, these headphones are wireless, meaning you don’t have to lug around dangly wires when you are out and about.
Functionality
RATING – 4.3/5
The control panel of buttons on the right earmuff is something that I found very unique and interesting. Each button has its own functionality depending on how long you hold down the button for, whether it is to skip a song or answering a call.
Although trying to remember which button did what and how long I need to hold down the specific buttons for took a little bit of time to master, I overall like this feature. It is not too complex and makes everything quicker, which in this day and age is something that people find more attractive than ever.
Sound Quality
RATING – 4.6/5
The sound quality of these headphones is one of a high level, with the lows and bass specifically being the standout aspect. Whilst both the mids and high seemed to be balanced in terms of they were of an ok standard, the lows definitely stood out to me. I also noticed that when having the volume on high, people around me couldn’t notice my music, so I could have the volume as loud as I want without worrying about disturbing others.
For the price of around £80, I think the sound quality matches its price tag – it is not as amazing as say a pair of Beats, however for it’s price, I would say the sound quality is of a high level.
One aspect that shocked me in terms of being so good was the ANC noise cancelling option that you can apply simply by just pressing the single dotted button on the underside of the right earmuff. I sat next to a fan to see how effective the noise cancellation was and let me tell you, after turning on the noise cancellation I could no longer hear the fans’ whirring at all.
Battery Life
RATING – 4.4/5
The SuperEQ S1 headphones impressively have the latest Bluetooth 5.0 protocol meaning its’ battery life has the best possible efficiency. As advertised, they’re supposed to last up to 45 hours as a best-case scenario. However, when you filter in the use of the ANC noise cancelling feature, they’ll use a bit more battery life – around 10% more over the course of time. This isn’t a whole lot but it’s something to keep in mind.
They do come with a USB charging cable that you can plug in whilst using the headphones, meaning you can use them whilst you charge. They also come with an aux cord and an aux adapter, meaning you can use them as wired headphones if you either forgot to charge them or you just prefer wired.

Overall, the SuperEQ S1 Headphones are a sensational pair of headphones. They are equipped with a variety of high quality and interesting features that you would expect from a pair of headphones nowadays, but with it’s own unique elements such as the astounding ANC noise cancelling technology and the innovative control panel that sets it apart from other headphones in its price range of around £80.
Although the sound quality doesn’t blow your socks off, for the price that it is at, it is at an expected and acceptable level. All in all, taking into account all the factors, this piece of kit is definitely a great option, and I would definitely recommend it as a low to mid-range budget option.
