Home security systems have never been more important and with the nights drawing in protecting your home from unwanted guests is vital. In this review, we have been sent the Swann AllSecure650 2k Wireless Security kit which is available for £499.95 for the 4-camera kit or £399.95 for the 2-camera kit. In this review, we focus on the smaller 2-camera kit.

This is not the first time we have reviewed Swan in fact it’s a camera kit that I use to protect the side of my house and drive area with help from the Swan – Swann Xtreem Security camera or Swann Corecam Wireless Security camera.

First Impressions/Design

The Swann AllSecure650 comes with 2 or 4 wireless cameras that are powered by an internal rechargeable battery. The Build of each camera is D-shaped if viewed from above and the camera just like previous models we have reviewed is made using white plastic and a black gloss front which does not win any prizes in the looks department but these are designed to blend into the location they are positioned.

You get a flip-up antenna and 3 celled battery slides in the base. The battery life is at max 8,700mAh and can be charged via the unit (USB-C cable) or you can simply swap the batteries over via the handy pull-out option. The benefit of this is if the main battery dies the spare will function as a mini-UPS to power the hub for 5 hours.

Unboxing you will find Swann provides you with everything you need from all the cameras, and mounting equipment, down to the cables needed for example HDMI, USB-C & ethernet cables. There are even some useful instructions to help you get set up

The cameras all need to link to something and that is where the NVR comes into play standing at 8 inches tall its matt white finish will not look ugly in the living room and to the rear is where you have all the connectivity ports as well the USB for the mouse that is included. There is also space for extra memory such as a MicroSD card. The rear also has a place for a backup battery that allows you to charge while being available as backup power. Having the option of an extra battery is a big bonus and will avoid any unwanted downtime.

Installation

If taking a look at everything you are provided at the point of unboxing scares you don’t be the installation really is not that bad at all. The Instruction manuals are over 3 leaflets and as long as you follow the steps getting set up won’t take long.

When setting up the cameras, you will need to consider your Wi-Fi connection as the Swann AllSecure650 requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi over the 5 GHz option.

Once the cameras are all in position and the NVR is set up running through the setup wizard does not take long but the app still needs improvement also when setting an admin password don’t use one that is too long to remember. You will also need to scan the QR code from the hub so you can view the camera via your phone as well as your TV. The app allows you to activate the siren and light on each camera to scare off an unwanted visitor.  There is a search tool via the app and this can also be seen via the NVR connected to your TV to find certain events.

Performance

Once you have set everything up on your TV and also mobile phone the cameras will capture brief clips before leaving a static image on the NVR page. You can look for certain events via the NVR but using the app is a quicker method.

Overall, You will find the camera footage regardless of where they are positioned to be clean and sharp regardless of the time of day it does tend to miss the odd bit of footage but this could be down to the wi-fi connection needing improvement.

Verdict

If you are looking for security cameras with 2K image quality this will more than identify intruders. I was also impressed with how long the battery life was and the simplicity of swapping or removing the batteries when they are in need of a charge. It was also great to have a spare in the hub to prevent any downtime in recording.

In terms of negatives, there is a lack of options regarding triggers, level of sensitivity and the clip length this makes the cameras a little limited in their functions. The other negative is the Swann app still needs a little work navigating around the app can be a little tricky for a first-time user.

However, putting the negatives to one side, if you are looking for a security system to capture unwanted visitors and notify you then this system is ideal. The Swann AllSecure 650 also allows you to store footage locally meaning there is no cloud subscription which can be both a good and bad thing. So if you want an easy-to-install and easy-to-use security camera that offers a quality level of footage both during the day as well as the night then this setup needs to be considered.

DON’T BUY IT!
