We have all been there that horrible moment when you reach into your pocket for your wallet or go into your handbag for your wallet or purse and find out you have misplaced it. No one wants to have to spend time cancelling your credit cards only to find your wallet/purse a few days later.
In this review, we have been sent the SwitchBot Wallet Finder which uses Apple’s Find My Technology to help you locate that misplaced wallet/purse. The SwitchBot Wallet works in the same way as the recently reviewed Twelve South PlugBug prevents you from losing your multiple device charger and costs just £24.99.
Unboxing
The SwitchBot wallet card finder is a thin card that fits in your wallet/purse without taking up much space. On the packaging, it is quite simple in the information it provides. Inside the packaging you are provided with the following:
- SwitchBot Wallet Card
- Lanyard
- Several manuals in multiple languages
- Warranty card
Design
The SwitchBot Wallet Card is very skinny in design 2.5mm thick and is no thinker than a ten pence coin and will fit into your wallet with ease. You can use the lanyard, but it did not look right in my wallet, so I decided against it.
The rear of the wallet card comes with a QR code that provides contact information and a button that when pressed allows you to set up the card and acts as the Find My Phone technology.
Regarding battery life, you should not have any concerns in this department with a 540mAh battery that would give you 3 years of use. SwitchBot does tell you that when the battery hits 20%. You should consider getting a replacement and at £35 it won’t break the bank. When the battery runs out it can still be used as an NFC card providing additional utility.
The SwitchBot Wallet Card can also handle most weather conditions as it has an IP67 rating meaning you do not have to use this just for your wallet it works well for luggage when going on holiday as we all dread that moment when you cue up for your suitcase and nothing arrives this way you can see which country it’s been delivered to.
Setup/In-Use
The SwitchBot Wallet card may look simple in design and that is mainly because everything runs via the app. The SwitchBot app is very easy to set up make sure you have downloaded the app then click on the plus sign to add a new device. Then select Wallet Finder Card and press the button on the card for 2 seconds you will hear a sound then it will connect. The SwitchBot Wallet Card can also be connected via Apple’s “Find My” app which was simple to do and took seconds to connect.
Once connected you can locate the card under the items tab. It will then play a sound and provide directions to where you placed your wallet so you can go retrieve it. The Find My app also allows you to see your current location and you can also activate “Lost Mode”. I have my doubts that if you did lose your wallet and it was not in a place like your home or office. Would you have much of a chance of getting it back even with a device like this?
If you did decide to put your wallet in lost mode it will provide information to someone who finds the wallet by scanning the QR code on the rear of the SwitchBot Wallet Card.
In the instance your wallet is somewhere that you might have a chance of finding it selecting the “Find Card” within the Find My app will send a signal from your phone to the card and create an alert there is generally a 20-second delay but in testing, it worked well.
The card can also let you find your phone if that is the item that is misplaced a double press on the card button will also send an alert to your phone and make a sound so you can find it. The downside is that having location services active on your phone will reduce your battery.
Verdict
The SwitchBot Wallet Card works well if you’re always misplacing things around the house or at work. The Apple “Find My” Technology works well to provide a direct real-time location and comes with an integrated alert beeper to help you find it.
The Find My technology means you can find your wallet anywhere in the world without the need to download additional apps. The 78dB sound alert will draw attention to your wallet when the alert is triggered meaning you should be able to find it in no time. As for the battery life, 3 years of use should represent a decent ROI.
Overall, the SwitchBot Wallet Finder card is easy to set up with the process taking just a couple of minutes to complete and anyone from my son who is very down with his tech to my dad who has been known to try and answer the sky remote control when the house phone has rung anyone can use this device.
The SwitchBot Wallet Finder is a perfect accessory to find your wallet or attach to your suitcase if you are a frequent traveller like my in-laws. Having a device like this will reduce the panic and inconvenience of cancelling bank cards and replacing ID if the worst were to happen. Having a device like this gives you a chance to find your wallet which is not a bad thing to have.
