The Vecnos IQUI 360 degree camera is the first 360-degree camera I have had the chance to review. The main reason in the past sharing the images like this on social media never really come out the way you wanted and felt distorted.
However, when I got sent the IQUI 360 I wanted to see if they might have fixed pervious issues that 360-degree images have brought in the past. The IQUI is a 360-degree camera stick and uses the IQUISPIN app to allow you to convert your images into social media-friendly images.
The IQUI is designed to bring more consumers using a device like this and I have to say they have a wonderful attempt to bring people back to taking 360-degree images.
Design
The IQUI 360 is a lightweight pen-shaped camera. The Pen has a matte metal finish with 3 buttons – Power, Shutter button & Still image LED/Video LED button. It’s designed so that anyone can use it.
The camera as mentioned in a pen-shaped device so easy to fit in your pocket. The IQUI 360 uses a 4x 180-degree lens that helps take shots in all directions plus an additional lens facing straight up.
This design allows each lens to cover a smaller area of view with the top lens ensuring that any faces or buildings are properly captured. When it’s time to charge this camera you have a proprietary charging port at the bottom which might annoy some people but I have no issues with it. However, you will need to charge it sidewards as the stand won’t stand up with the cable as well.
When taking photos on the IQUI you might wonder how much storage you have and the answer is 14.4GB which will give you over 1000 pictures to take making me think this would be perfect for a wedding and offer some quite unique images. Unfortunately, there is not a microSD card slot which does prevent you from increasing the storage level.
As mentioned when charging the camera it needs to be placed into the miniature tripod. This can also be used when you want to use the stand and create a picture as it acts as a stand when you want to take a picture from some distance.
Performance
Don’t expect massively hight quality images but if you take a picture in the right conditions the IQUI offer a decent 360-degree image. The image will be taken at 5760 x 2880 pixels however its when you zoom the image does lose a little of the sharpness. Unfortunately, the IQUI is not great in low-light, the images are still usable but you will notice visible grain in the image. However, for the general public, they won’t really notice any of the shortcomings this camera has.
The App
The star of the show is the IQUI SPIN app. We found it very easy to pair the IQUI using the app instructions. The only thing that may annoy some users each time you use the camera you need to pair it with your phone and it does not automatically do this after the first pairing process.
Once you have paired and have taken some pictures the app lets you transfer photos or video taken with ease. The images can be found in the app and also on your camera roll which makes it very easy to get to these images. What you can also do is amend the images into short animated video files that are perfect to what we posted on our Instagram. The app offers a small number of templates such as the spinning around a 360-degree image or you can create an effect where the image becomes a tiny world.
You can also add augmented reality effects such as snow or Christmas decorations that look like they were in the image all the time. Once you’re done downloading the file is also very easy and will also appear in your photo album once finished.
Verdict
I really like what Vecnos have done with the IQUI 360 that have actually created a 360 camera that I would actually go out and buy. The fact it’s about the same size as a pen is ideal for carrying the pen around. At £299 it’s a lot of money to spend but it’s a showstopper that will create images, unlike anything you can create using a mobile phone camera.
The only negatives I have about this camera is the positioning of the USB-C Port. In fact, the post at the base of the camera seems an odd place to have a charge port. It would be better to have it on the side of the device. I also found the fact you have to pair the camera to your phone every time you want to use it. It does get a little annoying but as you would not use this device every day it’s not a big deal.
Also if you wanted extra storage an SD Card slot would have been a nice addition as this is something not available on the IQUI 360. However, with 14.4 GB of storage that will give you over 1000 images of space.
Overall, the camera is very easy to use and connecting it to the app works really well and the app is full of tricks to get your creative juices flowing. The camera only has 3 buttons making it easy to use for anything. The image quality is decent but keep your expectations low and you won’t be disappointed. Night shots are not that great but it’s definitely something worth buying for a special event when we can see friends and family again fingers crossed soon in 2021.
