When Apple released the Magsafe wireless and magnetic charger it changed the way you charge your iPhone and with Apple charging over £50 for a MagSafe charger you might want to look around for an alternative option that a little less damage to the wallet. In this review, we are looking at the Xtorm Magnetic wireless power bank 5000mAh which is part of the Xtorm Fuel Series 4 range and exclusively for Apple iPhone 12 and later models meaning it will be suitable for the whole iPhone 12 range and also when the iPhone 13 lands later in 2021.
Update: Today Apple Launched their own MagSafe for the price of £99 compared to their Xtorm Wireless Magnetic Charger which has a better spec and a more budget-friendly cost of £39.95. Read below to find out why Xtorm has a much better offering.
Who is Xtorm?
Xtorm is a brand we have been lucky to work with as we get a chance to see the range before many others and over the last few months we have reviewed a number of their range.
Xtorm claims to be Europe’s #1 Power Brand and its goal is the energize people anywhere they go through their #MoreEnergy Vision for Mobile Technology. Xtorm is part of a larger company Telco Accessories BV which also look after the brand Gecko Covers who we have reviewed a number of their iPad Cases.
Design
The Xtorm Magnetic Wireless Power bank 5000 mAh has been designed for the iPhone 12 in mind and offers that chance of NextGen charging which is compatible with Apple’s new magnetic wireless charging standard.
This wireless charger costs € 39,95 from the Xtorm.eu website. This power bank fits nicely in your pocket and measures at 104 x 65 x15 mm and weighs in at 132g. The design of this charger offers a smooth grey back to the charger with the Xtorm logo engraved in the centre with a little xtorm bit of branding on one side and an orange power button on the other side.
At the base, you have that USB-C port with 4 LED indicators which shows you when how much power the charger has from 100% to 25% measures.
When you flip the charger over it has a raised base which indicates which side is the magnetic side of the charger. The power bank has positioned its magnets perfectly so they align with the ones in your iPhone 12 that offers that optimal charging position to wirelessly charge and the magnets are strong enough to stay on the back of your iPhone allowing you to use the charger at the same time you use the phone. You can also snap off the magnetic charger when not in use.
Power
This wireless charger comes with a 5000mAh Li-Polymer battery that will give you one and half charges of your iPhone 12 due to the 10W output. This will come to the rescue when you get to the end of the day of some regular use we have all been there when you are nearly home and see that red battery indicator for the last 20% this charger gives you that power back to continue watching your favourite show on Netflix or playing that game you play on the train back home.
When its time to charge your power bank you simply use the USB-A to USB-C charging cable into the plug with a USB-A port and it will give you full charge after 1 hour and a half to reach 100%
What you can also do is carry a USB-C to USB-C cable and in my case, if my other half had a low battery on her phone I could use this charger to give her a battery boost.
Verdict
The Xtorm Magnetic Wireless Power bank provides you with the chance to get a full charge and still have 50% battery life in case of emergency.
The Xtorm has been designed to connect to your phone while you use it. The only slight negative was I had to take off my phone case which if you are using the phone while charging it does offer an element of risk in case you drop the phone.
Apart from that, it provides you with an excellent alternative to the Apple Magsafe at a cheaper option at € 39,95 instead of over £50 for an Apple product.
